How about a thread thats turns others on to new and/or different artis. I,ll start 1- Paul Hardcastle and the Jazzmasters, vocials by Helen Rodgers. As smooth as it gets (MikeNYC and aba21 you guys know i have a Paul Hardcastle jones) 2- Phill Perry- What a voice, he has a cut with the Whispers that will take you away 3- For something very different try ANDREAS VOLLENWEIDER a Sweedish new age Jazz Harpist. When my teamates come over and i get tired of them i put on ANDREAS and they run for their cars, works every time.

Hey everyone!
I've got to second Ken-du on ANDREAS VOLLENWEIDER. His CD "Book Of Roses" is a good place to start. My suggestions are:
1. Kiss The Sky : I'm sure Ken is familiar with this one. It's Paul hardcastle with Jaki Graham on vocals. Alot of you will remember Jaki as one of the vocalist who sing "My Girl" with the Tempts on the "Get Ready" concert video. (I know, but don't hold that against her!!) The music is in the same vein as the "Jazzmasters" , kind of a light jazz, R+B & funk kinda thing. Their cover of Jimi Hendrix's Voodoo Chile is great. This is another album Motown dropped the ball on.
2. Dawn Silva - All My funk Friends : Ms. Silva was a member of Sly and the Family Stone, Parliament-Funkadeli and The Brides of Funkenstien. Her solo album, released in 2000, is the closest thing to old school funk I've heard in a long time! If you like the P-Funk mob this is a must have!
3. Me-2-U : This is an overlooked gem. Me-2-U were a group of guys from Washington DC. This CD, released in 1993, got lost in the glut of of bad product being put out by labels trying to cash in on the then hot "Boyz II Men" craze. This was unfortunate because these brothers had the goods. Songs like "Raindrops" and "Good-bye Girl" show these guys were clearly trying to follow in the footsteps of groups like the Temptations and Dramatics.
I hope you check these out!

Ken-du
I'm familiar with the disc your talking about though I'v never heard it. I'm referring to the first "Kiss The Sky" album on Motown released in 1992. Jaki Graham is definitely on this disc. Check Half.com, they have it cheap.
PS: Is Millennium Skyway any good?

Bebel Gilberto's "Tanto Tempo" is a great, mellow CD that takes the bossa nova that her father Joao helped create and updates it with electronica. Awesome CD.

I would like to suggest these two artist......... Heather Headley's debut cd..."This Is Who I Am"....this sister can blow! She was once on Broadway in the original production of the Lion King and Aida (I think Toni Braxton is in this production today) anyway keeping that in mind her voice is one of the strongest and purest female vocals in the industry today. She has a mellow and pure vibe that shines on each and every track. images.amazon.com/images/P/B00006JJ6L.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg [/IMG] Kem....."Kemistry"......if you are a jazz and r&b fan I think you will appreciate this cd. He has a vibe that is not only soulful but jazzy at the same time. I feel like I'm at a little cafe listening to him perform on stage when I play this cd. I highly recommend purchasing it. images.amazon.com/images/P/B00008BNUJ.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg [/IMG]

I like Kem as well. Reminds me a great deal of Al Jarreau.

I love Al Jarreau! Thanks for the heads up (no pun intended!) on Kem...I will have to check him out. (And I want to kiss that pretty head of his!)
Ken-Du I know you have a Paul Hardcastle Jones! I love the stuff of his I've had the pleasure of listening to.
I guess I would add to this list.... Regina Carter...fabulous violin player, but not classical. She does an interesting cover of "Papa Was A Rollin' Stone." And, an oldie but a goodie...Miriam Makeba. I saw her on an old Ed Sullivan Show, and I had to buy her "Mama Africa" CD.

ABA! You're early! My birthday isn't until Tuesday! But you are playing the Miracles, and I have to say you've got excellent taste and great timing! Coincidentally, I'm listening to Doggone Right. I should be playing my favorite Billy Griffin-era album, because his birthday's tomorrah. But my Renaissance LP is terrible. ... I wish they would release their albums on CD - not that I'd be able to afford them right now anyway.

The definitive box set collection entitled THE CHROME COLLECTION is now in my grubby little?.. hands(Ivory's line about O' book) It is the best anthology of the Spinners you are ever going to get, chronicalling the rise of the group with Lead singers Bobbi Smith, GC Cameron in 1967, Phillppe "Soul" Whynn and John Edwards. I am all over this collection right now as we speak. It is a must have if you love the Spinners.
