One of my favorite all-time albums is the "Live" (at the Upper Deck) album featuring the classic 5. I know I've seen many of you list it as your as well. Not only do we get the greatest performing their hits at the height of their popularity, the album is the closest thing we'll ever have to any kind of live concert video. No, we can't see them, but we can close our eyes and imagine.
Some of my favorite cuts off of this album are.....
"What Now My Love" - If you weren't in love with Melvin Franklin before you heard that song you definately were after! (yes, even the guys!!!!!)
"Don't Look Back" - the song goes on and on and on and yet it's STILL not enough. Paul Williams at his best. What more can I say?
"You'll Lose a Precious Love" - the harmony on this one is OUTSTANDING. I've always said that what sets the Tempts apart from other groups of their genre is their harmony and this song is prime example of that.
"What Love Has Joined Together" - perhaps my favorite cut off the album and the song I'm gonna walk BACK down the aisle to at my wedding! This SHOULD have been the Tempts album but sadly we all know that what love has joined together CAN be taken apart ......... again and again and again.
What do you all think?

That was a very strong album, overall. The cool part was that it had "rarities" on it, like "Yesterday", and a slightly different, pre "Mellow Mood" verson of "Ol' Man River". You'll notice that's it's called "OLD Man River" here, also. My only gripe about the album is, why take such a great song as "Beauty Is Only Skin Deep", and release it on an album only as a live version? The studio cut should have been an album track somehow.

But were those rarities considered "rarities" back then? I dunno.
As far as album cuts, I think that was back when the notion of releasing albums as concepts was a new thing. Up until that point most albums were just compilations of an artist's best selling singles.

It was..A GREATEST HITS cut...just like Ball Of Confusion.

The Billboard charts show that the albums were just as popular as the singles. Most albums had three singles on it. The rest were considered "fillers".

I thought it was a GREAT album. Much to my surprise a while ago when I found the CD. Now I can chill to it in my car rather than only on the record player. Marianne, I think Yesterday is my favorite on that one. I like David's version MUCH better even though I know some don't agree with me.

What I meant to say is, those two songs are considered "rarities" by today's standards. To my knowledge, there is currently no commercially available studio recording of a Beatles song by The Temptations. That's why "Yesterday" on that album is unique, among the temps catalouge(sp?). Also, "Old Man River" on the live album is a little different. Blu sings the lyrics a little differently, and the ending is slightly different. Since this pre-dates the studio cut, it's a "rarity".
