 Is it just me or does this version sound as if somebody had a plane to catch...in a big hurry. Richard has a nice voice but I like My Girl slow and easy. This hopped up version gives me the willies.

It's because it's a live version. When they do things in concert, EVERYTHING gets sped up. Sucks, but I guess we get more songs that way.  |

Here I go again -- that song just won't play on my computer. No matter what I do. And I still can't listen to David's "If loving you is wrong." I think Cheech is doing this on purpose to me What the heck is wrong with my musicmatch? |

AnnaK...for some reason, when I click on these you've mentioned, QuickTime player starts up, rather than MusicMatch. Maybe you need to look into downloading the QuickTime player? |

I don't need to clickon it. I've seen the man kill the song for 20 years. He got to sing it by default and I ain;t mad at him. I love Richard's work. I just don't think he was well suited to sing My Girl. I felt the same way about Bo. I love his work but it is surprising to me how Daivd took such a simple song and made it his alone. I don't think I have ever heard anyone I would say captures David and that includes(I'm ducking) David Sea. I did like Dennis version but even he admitted he couldn't sing it to his satisfaction. However I will say Mr. Sea does a hell of job with it though because he tries to stay true to the song. I think that's my biggest probelm with the others. It's almost as if they try to steal it and that just ain't possible. I also like Ali singing the song. The first time I heard him sing it I was truly impressed. Theo did a nice job with it as well.

No you should make your own assessment of how he sings the song. There have been times I heard him sing it in which I could live with is version. But then there are more times like when he sings it too fast, or sounds like Bill Murray in the Lounge Singer, or when they bring guest up on stage to sing with them(me included) that the song loses something in its appeal.

I've seen Richard sing the song ever since he joined the group and to me,he changed the way he sangthe song when he did the reunion tour. Listen to the Live in Japan....he sings it different than he did after 1982.
As far as the tempo,remember,they used to sing My Girl in a medley,even You're My Everything gets speeded up in a medley. Talk Of The Town will show you that.
Richard added something to the group...smoothness. When he was on the Christmas special when Melvin and Dennis was in the group,he sang his ass off. I really can't see why is ability to sing comes in question. He is a SINGER !
