Isn't it common for men to call one another by their last name? Anyway, Richard cracks me up, esp. he and Ali joking back and forth like....... Otis: When I was a kid.... Richard: 19- what? Ali: I got the book, I'll show ya!

Isn't it common for men to call one another by their last name? I think AnnaK's point was he used the last name form for Ruffin but not for anybody else, and they're all men . BUT, we know from our trivia that David's nickname was Ruff within the group, so I think we'd be reading too much into it to try to psychoanalyze the differences in address. He thought of David as 'Ruff' or 'Ruffin', so that was the name he used.

African American men usually call each other by something other than the first name......we are always looking for a way to shorten somebody's name to make em' fit in. Just what we do..........what's up man, boy dawg, partner, etc...............

Which just further strenghtens some people's claim that I am in reality NOT a white woman but a black man. ;D

All I can say is that hearing Otis refer to David as "Ruffin" reminded me of that ugly remark in the movie:" Wasn't Ruffin?"

Thank you Ivory, this is wonderful to hear the fellows.I am from Texas and I never heard much about the group unless I traveled out to the north.I wish I had more info on the group as I grew, because it was a dream come true that I had the chance to sing with them on The Oprah Show.Thank you for the great information.

You're welcome James and as always it's an honor to have a "celebrity" like you in our presence. I have another album kind of like that I will try to post soon. One of my favorite parts is where Melvin and Richard talk about how they would spend the night at one another's houses when they were kids and they'd lay in the bed and sing all night. Oh to have been a fly on the wall!
