As far as I'm concerned, David, Paul, Melvin Otis and Eddie will always get the number 1 spot simply because they were the originators, that's all we need to know. .......... however, I think the simple fact that so many people mistakenly think it's Eddie, not Glenn, on the famous version of "Silent Night" says a lot. Without question, the man has some talent. Also shows the mark that Eddie James left on the group. All anyone remembers is...Eddie James....Eddie James.....like no other tenor matters...just Eddie James.

And there in a nutshell was the whole point of my hypothetical question. What if time and tide had put Glenn in the "originator" seat in place of Eddie? And given him all the same factors that Eddie had to work with, along with their God-given talent? Now, IMO, I think, I feel...that Theo and/or Richard in place of David would not have carried the "originator" ball as well (Just listening to either of them do "My Girl" tells me that). But IMO, I think, I feel that very possibly/probably Glenn could have.

But it is so unfathomable (that's my word for the day, it doesn't matter that I can't spell it) for Glenn to be there instead of Eddie because, to me, if there's no Eddie, there's no Paul and if there's no Paul, then there's no Tempts. I can't even imagine it.

Now you don't have to agree with me just because it's Christmas. ;D I am admitedly the vice-president of the "who loves Richard club" but I don't think he's as talented in his role as Glenn was. I LOVE Richard and love what he did but I think we're doing a disservice to Glenn to say that the two of them are on equal footing talent-wise. Now I agree about Theo all the way! And of course Theo is finer than all of them, but that goes without saying.

I don't think that it's a disservice to put Glenn and Richard on equal footing talent wise...look at how long Richard was a member of the group. He taught Melvin how to sing bass..so says Richard.

What makes you think that I never heard Glenn? Mike NYC let me hear a lot of Glenn...More than a box set. He has a lot,if not ALL the Tempts music. You do realize that, don't you? I know exactly what Mike has inasmuch as a lot of it we have shared with each other..........I said in my earlier post that this was not directed to you personally since I don't know what you have heard and have not.....but I would venture to say you have not played Wake Up To Me or Ever Ready love nearly the same amount of times as you have played any Eddie tune......songs grow on you as you hear them and sometimes it takes more than one or two listens for a song to stick................don't think in 1964 that any song the Temps made made people act like they do about those same songs today....When the lp Get Ready or With A Lot Of Soul came out, nobody knew how good Say You or No More Water In THe Well was until it got played..........over and over again................they played them to death on the radio and you got to know them.........that's how they became the songs they are..........Glenn never had that........not only cause the Temps didn't get the same airplay then but radio had changed as well..........you had top 40 and drive time music..............you heard the same four or five songs all day long during the peaks times.........I know the C5 was the best and I consider Eddie the best............but GLenn was and is a hellofa singer capable of singing Eddie's songs better than anyone else has except the man himself.............

I haven't had Glenn's songs as long as I've had Eddie's. I can say that what I heard from Glenn,I like very much, weather I heard it once,or one thousand times...I liked Wake Up To Me,I'm On Fire,In A Lifetime,Go For It,Is There Anybody Else,Open Your Eyes,Can't You See Sweet Thing(Thanks Luke Soulwalker). I agree with your assesment on Glenn being a hell of a singer that sang Eddie's songs better than anyone else has...except the man himself. I may have been late hearing the music of Glenn's but better late than never, right? That way I can't be put into the EOS box set only listeners. I can also assure you that I've listened to them more than four times. Just like yourself,I think that Eddie was the man. I'm glad I got a chance to hear what I missed.

Well there you go.............I think we're on the same page now. I used to listen to Two Sides To Love and I've Been Good TO You because those were songs that didn't get played on the radio and it made me a huge Eddie fan. When Damon took his place I thought his voice as good as it was was too young for the job..........I felt that GLenn did the best service to Eddie's legacy with his renditions of his songs............
