And that's fine . I love both of them, and was obviously just being hypothetical, since I feel a lot of the reason for Glenn's 'under-recognition' was a matter of bad timing, inferior (to Smokey and Whitfield etc.) writing and/or lack of promotion of the group during his tenure there. That was the whole point of my hypothetical question. Eddie had amazing talent, and amazing talent to back him up (writing, promotion, vocally.) To me, IMO, Glenn had one out of those three, along with 'amazing talent' in himself. I just didn't feel that putting Richard/Theo/David in the mix was answering the question. If you feel that Glenn is on the same level with Richard/Theo as far as comparison purposes... that's your right. I disagree, that's all. I agree wholeheartedly with you on Glenn. I think you are right on point. i'm glad to see this thread back on track!! kalisa2, are you familiar with the cut "Open your Eyes" it was written and produced by Thom Bell and Linda Creed . This is a beautiful song with Glenn singing lead. it was released on an album entititled "Temptations" in 1981. its the same album that "The Best of Both Worlds" is on.

Gua... ...this one about made MY eyes pop out and really take notice of Glenn and his talent & range. When it opens, he's way down in the register, I was saying to myself "Who is that? Is that Richard?"...then he just seamlessly and flawlessly started soaring and I KNEW who it was!!

I have read the whole thread and found it to be very interesting. I am a die-hard Eddie fan but I've found that Glenn has made some outstanding songs that I truly love!!! He is in my mind on equal footing with Eddie, his voice is "cleaner" than Eddie's . Eddie's voice has more "flavor". This is only way I can describe the difference. I know that this is all subjective They are/were outstanding singers.

And truth be told, Glenn himself would probably either 1) be embarrassed by or 2) vehemently disagree with our sentiments (or both). He IDOLIZES Eddie.

Yes he does Idolize Eddie and would be the first to tell you so.................there is no disservice to Eddie James by saying GLenn was a great singer. Wake Up To Me. I'm On Fire, Silent Night all show Glenn had the goods.............And THE MOST IMPORTANT THING in this comaprison is the writing and promotion both of which Eddie had moe of than GLenn. I hate when people don't take all factors in account when disscussing a subject. THer is nothing negative about comparing to singers who could bring the house down.............. The first time I heard Glenn sing Just My Imagination live I said he is terriffic!!!

Furthermore, why is it a sin to compare Richard/Theo to David? Since we are imagining that Glenn had the same production as Eddie....what if Richard/Theo had the same production that David did? Isn't that taking all factors into account? What is so negative about that?

I am getting the feeling that because GLenn didn't have the material that Eddie had, he must not be able to sing as well.........That is a lie and a disservice to GLenn. The man can sing. I saw him regularly and heard him................I saw him sing Eddie's songs like they were his. He grew up singing the songs and when he sang them he sang them with reverence to Eddie which he still does today in his shows. I don't have problem comparing anybody to anybody as long as all the factors are taken into consideration. On the other hand I feel like some belive it is a disservice to Eddie to compare GLenn to him.............most of those who do have not listened to the music GLenn made during his years with the group and I would bet most never saw him perform with the Temptations. Hell they only put one or two songs GLEnn was on on the EOS BOx Set.........How you gonna compare if you haven't heard the music. DO you have all the lps he sang on? I do. This is not personally directed to you so don't get your pants tied in a knot ;D.............I'm just saying that to compare you have to be able to have reserched both sides to come to a conclusion................In a Lifetime and Who Are YOu is not representative of GLenn Leonard's work with the TEmptations, IMO.

I think Glenn's biggest problem is the lack of nostalgia that is attached to everything considering the C5. My personal favorite is "Go For It." It's playing right now. A voice as clear as crystal ... and there's even that sweet, playful timbre in his voice that I love so much in Eddie's voice.

As far as I'm concerned, David, Paul, Melvin Otis and Eddie will always get the number 1 spot simply because they were the originators, that's all we need to know.
.......... however, I think the simple fact that so many people mistakenly think it's Eddie, not Glenn, on the famous version of "Silent Night" says a lot. Without question, the man has some talent.

What makes you think that I never heard Glenn? Mike NYC let me hear a lot of Glenn...More than a box set. He has a lot,if not ALL the Tempts music. You do realize that, don't you?
