:yourock:
Cheech, doll, you have fabulous taste--you are batting 1.000 so far. I think Glenn has a cleaner sound than Eddie, although I DO love my Eddie. I would not want to live on the difference, but Glenn just might have an edge over my guy.
Before I actually knew anything, I always thought it was Eddie on "Silent Night." My mother is David Ruffin's love slave, so I listened primarily to his songs when I was little.

Let me second that - Cheech you are doing a great DJ job.
I don't know if Glenn was their best tenor - "best" is subjective - but he was definitely my favorite. I can't say enough about his phrasing. If this cat ever makes it to NYC I'm going to be front & center.
As for whether these could be hits or not...I would say no. His performances are great, but the songwriting isn't immediate enough - they don't have AM radio written all over 'em like the classic Smokey or Norman tracks, there are no hooks. I think Glenn got shortchanged in the songwriting department here, no question.

Glenn did get shortchanged in the songwriting department, and when the group did their own songwriting, they didn't promote it. I thought the songs that he did were great, but I was never one to let Frankie Crocker tell me what to play. Frankie didn't play Glenn's songs,he missed the mark by doing that. Glenn was the best first tenor....after Eddie, the "Master Tenor",as Glenn calls him.

I don't really think you can say one was better than the other. They were just...different. Eddie couldn't do "Silent Night" or "I'm On Fire" better than Glenn, just as Glenn couldn't do "TWYDTTYD" or "I Need Your Lovin" better than Eddie.

Was it you that talked about Eddie having a rough, slightly hoarse edge to his voice? Somebody posted that, but I can't remember who it was. This is the exact reason why Glenn can't do "I Need Your Lovin" better. They each had unique qualities that neither one of them had. Did that just make any sense? :laughing

Cheech, I actually prefer Ron Tyson to either Eddie or Glenn. He sounds more natural to me than the other two.

Glenn the best 1st tenor in the Tempts?? Hmmm... Nah, I can't go along with that. Glenn was okay...but I gotta give it to my favs Eddie and Damon...they set the standard...Ron is cool, too. I was just never able to get into Glenn as a singer...the best thing I ever heard him sing was "Silent Night" and that was about it. Maybe if he got better material I could appreciate him more as a vocalist...

I gotta agree, I think Glenn was their best tenor...timbre, pitch, phrasing, the whole nine yards. Glenn was The Man. I hope he still is...can't wait to see him if he ever makes it up here.
