I'm a southern guy (without the accent), so I've got an addiction for Kool-Aid (black cherry) and sweet tea I love sweet tea! I've got an addiction to that myself. That's one of the reasons I miss the South. The only place I can get it here in Maryland is at Checkers. I send my daughter there just to pick some up for me.

Is sweet tea iced tea with sugar/equal/whatever added to it? Never heard it called that. Here we ask for iced tea and then whatever kind of sweetener you want. Personally I HATE tea of any knd. Tea tea is bitter and so called herbal teas taste like lawn clippings I'm a coffee gal...black, decaf during the day. Black, decaf with a little Gran Marnier or Kaluha at night...yum! Tess

Tess,
Maybe you don't like tea because you're never tasted sweet tea! Here is a quote from the Atlanta Journal Constitution "Sweet tea can be appreciated by Southerners and Yankees alike: unapologetically sweet, but far from syrupy."
In Georgia they are trying to pass legislation to make it illegal not to serve sweet tea in restaurants! Read on:
Sweet-tea legislation makes lawmakers salty By Betsy Rothstein A group of Georgia state lawmakers is taking sweet tea to a whole new level, and some people in Congress are feeling somewhat sour about the whole thing.
Legislation introduced in late March would force Georgia restaurateurs who serve iced tea to also serve sweet tea, an eye-popping sweet beverage served in the South. The bill makes it a misdemeanor for those who refuse.
“Believe it or not, we’ve got war and economic problems to deal with,” said Selby McCash, a spokesman for Rep. Sanford Bishop (D-Ga.) who said his boss would not support a bill making sweet tea, or anything else for that matter, mandatory in restaurants. “He’d be for free enterprise,” McCash said. When Rep. Jack Kingston (R-Ga.) first heard about the sweet-tea legislation, he thought it was an April Fool’s joke. “Jack almost didn’t believe it. He thought we were teasing,” said Robyn Ridgley, Kingston’s spokeswoman.
However preposterous the bill may sound to some in Washington, the Georgia Legislature is notorious for introducing and sometimes even passing some pretty ludicrous-sounding legislation.
For instance, last year the Legislature passed a bill making grits the official breakfast food. When Sen. Zell Miller (D-Ga.) was governor, he talked repeatedly about issuing classical music to infants because he heard it makes you smarter. Miller proposed it in his budget, but it never passed.
Another interesting piece of legislation — making Little Richard’s “Tutti Frutti” the Georgia state song — also failed. State Rep. Frank Redding, who served in the Georgia House from 1983-88, was the author of the bill.
And still another piece of wacky-sounding legislation came as a result of a lawmaker who was driving home one night with his wife. The couple stopped at a convenience store so that the wife could use the bathroom, only there wasn’t one. So the angered lawmaker introduced a bill to make restroom facilities mandatory at convenience stores. It never passed.
“You see the world through your own eyes,” remarked Kingston.
He remains dead-set against mandating the availability of sweet tea in Georgia’s restaurants, saying, “I don’t think we need to be in the business of mandating what private businesses should offer to their customers.
“It’s very important legislation,” he said sarcastically, adding, “They should also be required to serve fried chicken. It’s a good thing to worry about when we have a big deficit.”
Kingston said one good thing about the sweet-tea bill is that people can actually grasp it: “People can understand sweet tea, but they can’t understand the disproportionate share in the Medicaid reimbursement formula. So it takes your mind off the heavy lifting.”
But freshman Rep. Jim Marshall (R-Ga.) was a little sweeter on the idea than some of his colleagues.
“As long as the sweetener is sugar and it’s added while the tea is hot, that’s all right,” said Marshall. He noted that serving sweet tea is an economically sound idea.
