to all my dear sweet friends on this board- my brothers and sisters on this board- who have been with me through this 7 month 3 day ordeal- the Good Lord has finally allowed the heartbeat of Irwin Kramer- my dad- to cease beating and he is called to his rest in paradise. on this september 6th- which is exactly 6 months after his 70th birthday- he is gone.he died at 2:30 am edt in good samaritan hospital in baltimore maryland.
Irwin Kramer was born march 6th, 1933 in brooklyn ,ny, to hyman and rose kramer of kiev in the ukraine- russian jewish immigrants. he was an unplanned child , as his brother and sister were 16 and 13 yrs older. irwin graduated from high school in brooklyn in 1951 and went to the u.s. air force. he was stationed in frankfurt germany. he was trained as an airplane mechanic. he went to college briefly but didn't finish.
he had then got hired as a mechanic for braniff airways and worked out of jfk airport- for 18 yrs. he met julia kramer - my mom- in 1963. they were married in dec 26 1963 in wash d.c.
my brother dennis and i and mom were dumped by our bio-dad in 1963. he didn't care to pay or spend time.
irwin became our dad . for nearly 40 yrs, raising us, helping us, guiding us, instructing us, reprimanding us, encouraging us.even though mom and him had a baby of their own in 1967- keith- he treated all of us equally- sometimes harder on keith.
he wanted us to have a better life. he worked extra overtimes in bitter winter to save up for us to have a home in long island, and to take family trips to puerto rico and aruba and florida.
he was a member of the iamaw- int'l assoc of machinists and aerospace workers union. he became a financial secretary of a local lodge. he then applied for a higher position as a grand lodge auditor and won. from 1970-1996 he had a territory of seven states. he moved the family to maryland in 1972. the home we have in maryland has 3000 sq ft and 1.3 acres. dad
provided us with creature comforts and love.
he would constantly visit us in california with mom every year and was close to his other 2 sons. he loved opera and classical music as well as jazz and when he traveled in the virginia -north carolina area- he would listen to christian ministers on radio. he still remained a jew all of his life.
he is survived by his wife of nearly 40 yrs, and 3 sons, 1 of denver, 1 of maryland, 1 of san diego. he has 10 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
according to jewish law he will not be embalmed and will have an immediate burial this weekend in the veterans cemetery in baltimore.
