And even more stranger: Females in tribes in Kenya and other African nations are finally rebelling at the ancient custom of requiring a newly widowed woman to pay to have sex with the village's "cleanser" to purify her soul sufficiently to be allowed to attend her husband's funeral, according to an August Washington Post dispatch. Said one particularly vulgar, besotted cleanser in Gangre, "It's not bad for me since I get to be with the beautiful ladies. The women like it because who else would be with them. They can't stay alone with the spirits. They need me." Cleansers are believed to be major HIV conveyers since a condom would not allow the spirits to pass. [Washington Post, 8-18-03]

We talked about that very same subject in my English class some time ago. He's usually the one no one else wants anything to do with, right? One of them in an article my classmate brought was supposed to be a carrier of the virus that causes HIV/AIDS, yet he's supposed to be a cleanser? I understand that it's their culture, but sometimes you have to wonder why, when this whole world is evolving and learning quicker than ever, some folks just refuse to keep up. My English classmates and I had to pick African countries to research and present. I'm doing Sudan, and I read an article about the increasing AIDS cases in that country. Since the government controls basically everything, leaders won't allow sex and AIDS education in the schools. My teacher commented on the possible correlation between literacy rates in some of the countries and the percentage of their populations with AIDS and HIV. The countries with higher literacy rates, say around 40% or higher, are the countries with the lower amounts of AIDS/HIV cases. In this case, knowledge truly is power. Wow, I just got off on this whole other thing. Sorry.

A few years back around 1999 or 2000 a good friend of mine by the name of Bruce Hill did something that to this day has all of us that know him still scratching our heads and wondering why. I met Bruce during some hard times in my life, we were both in a mens homeless shelter called The Calvary Rescue Mission. He was a presence that could not be denied because he liked to talk. I mean really liked to talk, almost nonstop and always like to sit next to the only television in the shelter making it impossible to hear the tv so that every night the words " Bruce will you shut up " echoed throughout the shelter dining room where the tv was located. I left the shelter in december of 1996 and moved into my current apartment and Bruce moved into my building in january of 1997. Our friendship continued until he moved out in 1998. We talked maybe two or three times and then I never heard from him again until one day when I was watching the local news one evening and the reporter announced that Bruce Hill had been arrested for robbing the National Bank of Commerce branch downtown. Yes it was shocking to hear that someone I knew was accused of bank robbery and this was so out of character for the Bruce I knew so they had to be talking about someone else. Unfortunetly what he said next proved beyond the shadow of a doubt that it was my friend. " Bruce Hill who is legally blind was escorted to the teller window by a bank security guard, where he handed the teller a note which said that he was robbing the bank. He was taken into custody as he reached the front door of the bank." A blind man robbing a bank? Later when we would ask him why he did it or how he thought he could possibly get away he would only make some comment about our mother and her lovers sexual escapades and to kiss a region of his body that I and anyone else that he had invited to do so had no desire whatso ever to kiss. Anyway thats my strange and unusual story.

WOW - There sure are a lot of strange and unusual stories in this thread.
I have one to add - mainly because it was SUCH A FREAK ACCIDENT!.
To start with a little bit of background - I live in Washington State - in a very small town of 800 people. Washington State holds quite a variety of wild animals - and the area I live in - is one of the largest breeding grounds of Eagles.
My story is this: A friend of my Husband's - makes his living by driving a semi. This Guy was driving his Semi in our area - when out of no where a Eagle popped up - hit his windshield - came through the windshield and took out all of his front teeth.
Can you imagine if he had been driving a CAR when this happened? :shocked
Most people do not realize how large an Eagle actually is.

I wonder if it hit the fan.... ;D THE HAGUE (Reuters) - A Dutch driver was covered in hundreds of liters of manure when a tank burst on a lorry carrying fertilizer, police said on Tuesday. "It was a nice night ... so he probably opened his window when he stopped at a traffic light, and then -- (it) happened," said Dana Kragten, spokeswoman for police in rural Drenthe province. "The tank had a small window which burst, probably due to pressure ... The man said he had no time to back away his car or close his window." Police said the man, whose car was sprayed with an estimated 1,700 liters (370 gallons) of LIQUID MANURE escaped injury though his car had to be towed away.

Here is another story:
"Dave Matthews Band May Face Criminal Charges Over Bus Stink Group allegedly dumped human waste into river while crossing bridge.
Authorities in Chicago are considering criminal charges against the Dave Matthews Band after reviewing surveillance footage of an August 8 incident in which the group's tour bus allegedly dumped human waste into the Chicago River. Police Commander Michael Chasen said he's certain that the band's bus is the culprit, thanks to the footage, which was shot from nearby buildings and shows a bus crossing the bridge as a tour boat passes below (see "Dave Matthews Band Sued For Stinking Up Chicago River"). Criminal charges could include violations of public nuisance laws and ordinances to protect public health and safety, according to The Associated Press.
Chasen said Dave Matthews Band bus driver Stefan Wohl told police that he crossed the Kinzie Street bridge near the time the incident took place, but that he did not say whether he was responsible for dumping the 800 pounds of human waste through the bridge's metal grates. A tour boat with unfortunate timing and a group of 120 passengers aboard was doused with the refuse as it passed underneath.
Around two-thirds of the passengers sitting on the upper deck of Chicago's Little Lady were hit with the falling waste, the Chicago Tribune reported. Five passengers went to Northwestern Memorial Hospital for testing and all received refunds on their $25 tickets.
The state of Illinois filed suit against the Dave Matthews Band and Wohl on Tuesday, alleging that they violated state water pollution and public nuisance laws. The suit seeks $70,000 in civil penalties.
Jerry Fitzpatrick, the driver initially accused of dumping the waste, told the Tribune that "the band is very environmentally conscious. We wouldn't want to have anything to do with this sort of thing."
The Dave Matthews Band is on tour through October 8, when the group's bus will stop at the University of Florida in Gainesville for the final show of the Vote for Change Tour (see "Dave Matthews Band, Pearl Jam, Springsteen, Others Join Vote For Change Tour").
A spokesperson for the Dave Matthews Band could not be reached at press time. "
Can tou imagine how the People felt that were hit with the WASTE? :shocked

A few weeks ago, we were driving around Arcadia, CA. It was a cool morning, so the windows were open. My wife was driving. All of a sudden we heard a loud noise as something struck the driver's side window frame. Whatever it was, then smacked me hard on the left side of my neck. We pulled into a parking lot and tried to figure out what happened. I had a small welt on my neck. We couldn't see anything around us nor in the back seat either, so we went on our way. The next morning, we saw a huge, colorful bug dead in the back window, behind the small brake light in the back. We couldn't move the bug, so to this day, it sits there it the rear of her car. It can only be seen through the window from the outside. I was so glad to find out it was a bug and not a stray bullet or pellet. I named the bug "Lucky" because I was lucky not to get stung. ...the way you do the things you do...
