Beets are the ONLY veggie I don't like. I was at the Hard Rock Cafe in Atlanta and had this sandwhich LOADED with Brussel Sprouts and all my friends were like "ewwww!" So I took them out of my sandwhich and ate them plain just to annoy all them!

Nope, nope, NOPE!!! I have some ULTRA-picky eating habits. The only veggies I'll eat are broccoli, carrots, potatoes, and those types. Although the movie Fried Green Tomatoes made them look good, I just don't want to try them. Yuck! WHAT?....No fried green tomatoes? girl let me tell you, you're missing a treat. Are your parents from the south? or are you a third generation from the south? My parents are from the south and I think it makes all the difference in how you look at traditional southern fare, now I admit there are a lot of foods that my parents introduced us to that I absolutely cannot stand such as rutabagas, hog maws, boiled turtle, pig feet, grits and all that horrible stuff, but there are others that I absolutely love and fried green tomatoes is one of them. I suppose it's similar to fried zuchinni, but I've never tried that. Since this thread is called "Strange and Unusual", and we're discussing food, here are some I've tried but wouldn't buy or cook it....Cow's tongue, chitlin's, fried rabbit and squirrel. These are those I know I'd NEVER try knowingly....sea oysters, mountain oysters, snails, caviar, squid, snake, okra, etc. I'm sure there are more.

YOU DON'T EAT GRITS!!!!! I love them!!! Everytime I eat them, I think of my grandma My parents eat chitlins and I refuse to!! My mom used to cook them and the whole house would smell of FUNK!!! Disgusting. I have a friend at school who is from Salley, SC and her lil town has Chitlin week or something like that and she says that whole time, that's ALL you can smell. Blech!!! I don't like all of that stuff. Especially if it doesn't smell right to my nose. What in the world encouraged people to start cooking that stuff you named? !!!! Boiled turtle!!!!

Oh Lynnie girl...LOL..   I am literally in tears over here cracking UP... On the SERIOUS tip though, first of all you have to understand the roots of our race, a lot of those foods are what was left after the slave owners had their choice selects, other's that I named were what ever they could find from the land when food was scarce...those meals that our ancestors had are OUR steak and potatoes today. A lot of that food I grew up on and with each generation that follows, the idea of eating such foods really becomes unheard of. My daughter hasn't even heard of most of it and doesn't care to try any of it, so I'm assuming by the time SHE has children...hog maws and chitlins' will be history.

Good grief!! I probably would have been traumatized!!! I had a turtle for a pet once, and I could never imagine throwing it in a pot like crabs!! I gotta ask my parents about this one!! You really don't like grits?

I'll put it this way..if I had a choice between cold cereal and grits...the cold cereal would win...no question. One reason, I'm sure is that we had them so much as a kid, that I grew to despise them..now my daughter loves them, but me...

Have you guys had fried pickles? Those are SO good! I saw them when I was down in Texas this summer so I ordered them just because it sounded funny. But it actually was really good!
My Grandpa always is joking me about eating my bunny Damone. Yeah, he's awesomely weird!
