WE ALL KNOW LEON DID AN EXCELLENT JOB IN HIS ROLE AS DAVID RUFFIN . WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT HOW DAVID RUFFIN WAS PROTRATED IN THE MOVIE? Based on what you have read and researched on the Temptations, do you believe what you saw in the movie. If so, tell us why and if not tell us why. We have discussed this many times and we always look forward to hearing another opinion. I would like to know what effect the movie has had on you whether you believe it to be factual or just made for TV. This *movie* has sparked much debate as to its validity and whether it should have been made or not. What do you think? Would you personally have been as big a fan as you have become without the movie?

I honestly believe David was a good person. I believe he was arrogant which he had every right to be. In the book David had his own transportation from the other guys. I think He knew he could establish himself as a solo artist and he carried himself in such a manner. If the movie hadn't come out I probably wouldnt be a fan.The movie made me wonder thats when I read the book and then everything else.I saw the movie and I was like there has gotta be more to this. After the book I was like what is Eddie and Davids' side. I am yet to read tony turners book Deliver us from Temptations. How about you? Iread All that glitters. Is the book worth it?

I've pretty much read everything that has been out including Tony Turner.........We all wish we could have heard Eddie and David's side......David said on the Street Gold video he was going to tell his side but unfortunately we didn't get to hear it...Eddie said many times it was nobody's business and that he would never tell the story and he didn't. David was an established solo performer before he joined the Temptations.one of the reasons they didn't want him was because they felt he was using them to promote his solo career and he would leave enventually and he did. Probably the biggest arguements around here are : Otis' book and movie is a out and out lie Otis told on his brothers and he shouldn't have who is responsible for the way people were portrayed in the movie How important was Otis to the C-5 and how much power did he really have Is Otis the reason for the demise of the C-5 These debates can get very lively and we hope that they don't run you off when they do.......... ;D I find the people here to be very passionate in their beliefs...........

I am glad I read the book because it was very different from the movie. In the movie Al was the one to hit Paul. But in Paul was the one to hit Al. Alot of things differ. Eddie seemed to be a private person even in Otis book. I guess thats why we don't know a whole lot about him. I have to get the goldstreet video I haven't seen it yet.I have heard alot about it. I think David was Just like the movie made him out to be "there is only one David Ruffin ;D" And thats cool with me.

Interesting statement...............only one David and that one was cool with you.......I feel the same way about all of them.........I don't judge anyone because of how they lived their lives...........who am I to do so.......they made some music that still is the fabric of our society today.....on ESPN they use TWYDTTYD in the commercial about Chris Berman and even though when I hear it and look up I know they won't be there singing it...the song is the draw and still is to this day......And yes Street Gold is a must................

David was a good person, and a GROUP MAN! You are right, there is a LOT more to this...than the book,or movie lets on. If you stay on the board, you will see. You can go in the Theater thread and look at Eddie's response to the book when he was interviewed on Donnie Simpson's show. You can look in the News and Articles thread and read Dennis' take on what was going on in the group. There is a article that the group gives in response to Dennis' comments. There is also a Blues & Soul article that David did also. You might want to read them.

temptress wrote:that's wrong. in the movie Al was the one who wanted to stay backstage saying that he was tired and Paul wanted to go back out onstage but in real life After they went backstage Paul was the one who said that they'd done their whole routine and that they didn't have any more songs to do and al was saying that they should go back out and paul was ignoring him. then al hit paul and paul had to be rushed to the hospital. so of course they didn't go back on stage. paul could've lost his eye. and paul actually got a scar on his nose from the beer bottle.

and as far as david goes. i think he was portrayed well david was david and everybody loved him he was like a king in detroit. and people still liked him even tho people knew he was doing crack people still loved and adored him. i don't care cuz even if he was like that i still like david. he was very blunt and i like honest people.

So much to agree & disagree with. But, as Temptress stated, David was David. And that's cool with me as well.

I dont think the movie does David much justice. In fact the only people that get a good spotlight in the film is Otis and Melvin. If youve ever heard an interview or seen David on TV, hes very calm and never demands much attention. He was very spiritual. Very Human. He was always well spoken, very articulate and "gentelmany" if you will. I can live with the fact that the film captured his ugly side, but it would be easier to accept if they wouldve at least shown this side of him as well. They didnt obiously. Instead, he was shown as an arrogant, selfish, controlling, twisted, womanizing bastard. Leon was great, but the story didnt capture him well. If you disagree, ask Ruffin's family why their so mad about it.

I AGREE WITH Y'ALL. ALTHOUGH THE ONLY SENSITVE, HUMAN PART THEY SHOW IS WHEN HE FIRST JOINED THE GROUP AND TOLD OTIS THAT IT WAS THE FIRST TIME EVERYTHING IN HIS LIFE WAS GOING WELL. I WISH THEY SHOWED MORE OF THAT SIDE TO HIM.
