Now I kid Aba about it. My thing is I feel like we should make every effort to buy and encourange others to buy Tempts music that is available for retail sale. But it's not like I'm championing the cause of the record industry. My reason is purely selfish, if they see there IS a demand for Tempts music, then maybe they'll release even more. But if we're all going around making copies for one another, that's different. Ten of us may have a copy "Lost and Found" but only one of us actually bought it. So Motown sees that no one is interested in previously unreleased Tempts' stuff and they don't give us any more. I don't think that's entirely the case. Motown doesn't promote their unreleased stuff, thinking that the music is only interesting to a few. That's why we don't see a lot of this stuff coming out like it should. Motown would rather stick a unreleased track on a compliation of songs that you already have, so you can buy that again. It's too bad because you have people who work hard at uncovering this "new" music. Agreed.

Mike, I fail to see why Nedra Ruffin, Davette English or Paul Kendrick (for example) are owed any money for proffits made off of Phoenix Rising or Awesome. Those are the albums I was referring to in my above post. You fail to see why they should get royalties ,either, but you didn't name any titles ,you just said in-print,and NEWSFLASH! You may not want to admit, but those three names that you mentioned should get royalties, because the work that their fathers did still sells! That's why Otis still has shows! Do you think that the families were NOT entitled to get any money from the two cd set titled "TEMPTATIONS-THE SOLO YEARS"? Do you think Otis should have received any money from that ? I would like to know your answer!

ivory- as a former rack jobber and record company exec - here's how the system works- royalties are on a timed limited basis- greater at the start and depreciating rapidly as the product's shelf life increases. when they would brag- shipped platinum- they may have shipped 1,000,000 copies to the record stores but then if the sales were duds then they shipped back maybe 200,000-350,000 copies back to the record company. then they may end up on the ''cut -out '' racks where the record or cd would be cut in the corner as a reduced item- 2.99-4.99. there are a number of those -mostly from no-name groups- at places like goody and where house and tower.
the copies of phoenix rising and awesome and earresistable have been out-especially phoenix rising for 5 yrs! you wouldn't pay full retail for a 1999 cadillac even if it had zero miles! it's not current, and otis isn't getting a nickel profit off of it! the rack jobber - in this case wherehouse- wanted $19.99 for it ! i could get it new for $10.99 on half .com! wherehouse is expensive at times and they wanted used copies of phoenix rising for $9.99! otis still isn't making a dime off of it!wherehouse paid the distributor up front a long time ago and the distributor paid motown a long time ago for those cds. believe me they're not printing up new phoenix rising copies! this is not thriller we're talking about- 40 million copies- they had to do 25 or more platinum or double platinum shipments for michael's all time seller!
he gets most of his $$$ from PERFORMING these songs which were written by many other folks- maybe ali ollie should get paid for everytime otis does treat her like a lady in concert!
i would like to support the tempts and all artists- i have bought and paid for over $50,000 in records, tapes, cds and 8 tracks over the years! i still have at least 700 albums in stock . i only downloaded what i mentioned before, and i received the cds from our board friend.
if i downloaded brand new tempts material it would be wrong. i also would be wrong for downloading still available stuff- but if the price is outrageous i will do without or do my bmgmusic deal.

Ivory makes a mental note......... "Do not use Otis' name in the future to illustrate a point because it cause folks to wig out and totally miss you point."
