Man I Really can't bring myself to say that Ali was better than Dennis. I can't bring myself to say that Dennis was better than Ali. Then again, maybe I can. Ali did not seem as strong as Dennis. Dennis seemd more raw and natural and to have just a little more soul. I think I'll put some stuff on tonight and revisit this and see what I come up with. T. I don't like the word "better" at all. I think Dennis, Ali, and David were all great -- but each had a different approach to their presentations. David, in my opinion, was the one who was the compelling one, the one who exuded emotionality. Dennis is the one who understands to go from sheer power to extreme gentleness. And Ali despite all the grittiness in his voice appears to be the sophisticated one: I like his jazzy touch. AK Yeah I believe all three of them brought a special magic to the group separately. But I definitely think that David and Ali were "better" vocalist than Dennis. Nothing against Dennis ;he's a great singer as well. But he just wasn't blessed with the set of vocal pipes that Ali and David had. The power in their voices and the high notes they could hit were unbelievable(Especially the screams !!). Check out the Smother Brothers performance of the Tempts doing"Im Losing You" again. David was hitting some unreal high notes with ease. I would never in a million years think that someone with such a raspy voice could hit such high notes.

Alright ((DC)) I too think that David was a very, very special singer. Johnny Adams could be compared to him in regard to going from baritone to falsetto. But Johnny doesn't sound quite as clean and expressive as David does when he hits the high notes. Ali, on the other hand, is right up there with David. I do play his "Right Here All Along" CD very often. He's simply great.

But Dennis can't hang with either of these brothers vocally (no disrespect). I'm not talking about style, but vocals. But Ali is incredible period. I think the major difference as far as how they sang in the Tempts is; Ali was allowed to let loose completely in the Tempts (screaming, hitting random high notes) whereas David didn't really get to show his true vocal talents until he went solo.

As much as I love Dennis and his beautiful voice, I have to agree with you. (What do you think of David Sea's voice, btw.? I think he's a great singer, too.)

I believe he does have solo material out that I need to check out. The times that i've seen him when he's with the Dennis Edwards Review he's done a great job. But I probably need to hear more of him to make a more detailed assessment.

Yes. He has some good solo CD's out. He's not hitting the high notes as frequently as Ali, but when he does, he sure sounds perfect (to me). I think his being not so generous in "showing off" his ability to sing the high notes makes his material only more interesting. It makes one anticipate these rare occasions -- and when they occur it feels soooooo special.

David, Dennis and Ali would have made a powerful trio. In my opinion all three of them are Temps For Life because they contributed a great deal of success to The Temptations.
