I have been listening to Ohio Players on You Tube...they are doing a (free) concert in West Palm Beach Oct 25 and I plan to go, bring a lawn chair and cooler
such a talented group....now that's music! The original singer, Sugar (Sugarfoot) leads the group Rollercoaster...Love Love! Fiiiiiireee LOL
BUT...I admit....
I mostly listen to ...The Temptations....(LOL) I prefer most songs done by them...for instance I would rather hear them sing Reflections than hear the Supremes
I just love them...when I feel down I listen to "The Way you Do the Things you Do" and I smile
My 2nd fav group is Manhattans....and I listen to them a LOT and 3rd is The Four Tops I also love (and have seen various times) O'Jays, Chi Lites, Harold Melvin and Blue Notes (Teddy)... I admit I like some of the "boy bands">> N'Sync....Boyz to Men
As you can see...I prefer men's voices...and I actually prefer group singing.. (harmony) ..so it is no wonder I love the Tempts so much I love the solos by all the various leads over the years..
what I don't "like" is usually over the top women singing.. I can like it or admire it when I see them ie, (old) Whitney, Mariah, Celine Dion...but I never listen to them on ipod, or you tube and I have a few cds of them but I don't play them over and over
I actually like some current stuff too...in small doses I like Flo Rida LOL
But most of the time I have some various Temptation song playing I have Emperors of Soul and if I am bored I find a cd to listen to
and if I am really bored I put on "TWYDTTYD" and it is all "new" to me again...I am happy like I was when I first heard them sing it
and if I really want to baffle myself I put on "Just My Imagination" and get all excited....how clever...he really doesn't know her...he is just daydreaming about her..wow
(I guess I am easily amused LOL)

Looks like we have the same taste *smiles* I would rank The O'Jays and The Manhattans together with the Tempts as my all time fav. groups. In regard to the "over the top" singing I couldn't agree more. The mere mentioning of Ms. LaBelle or Mariah Carey makes me shiver (not with pleasure, though). There's one lady with an exceptional voice, however, who used it wisely to add an extra dimension in depth to her songs: Kimberly Briggs (aka Kim Tolliver). You'll find her on my blog. raggedy-soundofsoul.blogspot.com/2008/11/raritaetenecke-kim-tolliver-let-them.htmlAnd now that I've mentioned her, I will give her a listen! "He's Still On My Mind" is a wonderful lost-a-precious-love song.

Hi Anna...I love your blog...really like that young guy who does a very good job on some of Ruffin's songs and OJ songs...fantastic I do think our tastes are similar..you may be a bit more into Blues than me (although I had a phase where I really liked the originals)...LOL Kimberly was good...I am not too much into women singers (I can enjoy a performance, or a one time listen, or admire them on tv, etc) I just don't get into buying their cds I don't like to listen to them when I am driving or on computer...just too distracting for me I do like Phyllis Hymen, Dorothy Moore, Eva Cassidy and I can listen to them on my computer and have their cds Mariah?? Great voice...but I can't make it through a cd of her LOL I have to say that in general I am not into over the top singers....whether it is Celine or Joe Cocker or Little Richard... I can admire them but they are not what I "listen" to on a regular basis I have found that the Temptations never let me down...for instance, I don't like Broadway at all (I am from Pittsburgh and I have no pretentions LOL) but I do like when Paul sings Man from La Mancha song I don't even really like "standards" but I enjoy when the Tempts sing "Some Enchanted Evening" I would rather hear them sing a Supremes song than the Supremes LOL Funk?? I love the song they did with Rick James (Melvin's nephew btw) for the short lived "reunion" and Christmas??? Temptations all the way...their version of Silent Night is the ultimate for ME
