I like to draw maps and I've made imaginary places since I was 8. It started out when my great uncle bought me n ADC map of Richmond and I started drawing my own streets in it. EVentually I started making maps of my imaginary city within the house, yard and neighborhood. The living room was where one of my imaginary neighborhoods was... the dining room was downtown... the hall was a main road that lead to the highway which was the sidewalk outside. The side yard was a river.. I often flooded part of it with the hose and my grandfather hated that I made streets in the lawn (I'd take wet sand I found in places and lay it down like pavement). The patio was another city called Byrdton (the house was Ourtown or Owton). Across the street in the alley, there was this place that used to form this large puddle whenever it rained and one side of it much higher than the other. This became bluffs and I created cobblestone streets and bridges with rocks from the alley. Whenever it rained, part of my city was flooded. I even dug a canal! I named this Sherrington and down the alley was Roxbury... don't ask where I got these names. And this was actually at the backdoors of an apartment building. I few years ago I went back there and some of my creation is still there!
Anyway, I drew maps of all these places back when I was 8 - 11. I created what had to have been a couple hundred maps between 3rd and 5th grades. I even folded some up like the maps I saw in stores and designed covers. I don't have any of those left... or at least they're lost. In 1991 I started making pages of maps that connected together. Two years later I created a ... I forget how many pages this map had of a place I named Mansfield and in this city I named streets after people in my grade which they delighted to see. I kept upgrading this map until my 9th grade year but I had created too many streets that I couldn't name them all.
Late 1994 I started another map which would become one of two (which were twin cities) that would decorate my walls in my dorm all four years of school. I named streets after people as I had in the other map but people really liked this one over the last because it looked real compared to the other which didn't have uniform colors and ink. To me, blocks were too big. I kept up with the street and place naming taking examples from everywhere. I named this city subtly after myself using my middle name Dessau and created its twin city Suffolk.
I then created a country which for years disappointed me because it looked too much like the U.S. just deformed. I've redrawn it over and over but I like the general shapes of the "states" and I can't alter them too much since some date back to 1992. Those I had named after friends too... "Rolfanda" from Rolfe... "Malloria" from Mallory... "Wallacia".. well you can guess that one. The guy I named Wallacia after named the river that ran through Dessau, "Aquius River" which lead me to name the "state" Aquiusana."
I had classmates pick counties in Aquiusana to be named after them.
There are states, but they are more like regions I guess, I think I'll call them provinces. I don't know. What really matter are the districts and I'm not even sure if I want to call them districts. It's kind of like the U.S. but they are districts made up of a number of states that are united as one nation. The country "Altairia" named after the star Altair started out with 6 disticts which I expanded to 8 and recently 10. I added more "states" and here is why I'm posting all this in the first place... I named one of the new ones Kalisa. It sounds like a great place (inspired by a great person). What I wanted to know was does anyone want something named after them... just give me whatever name and what you want to be named (city, county, street, bodies of water, mountains, etc.).
if this sounds silly to you...
