Earthangel, that's what I'm talking about! My mother is this huge Lakers fan, my brother is a huge Lakers fan, and I suspect even my little sister is in awe of the Diesel. Me? You know what I say to the Lakers. They can go somewhere. I think I may have figured out why I don't like the Lakers last night. I don't hate the idea of one team or a player dominating a sport; I liked Pete Sampras and Andre Agassi when they were always on top, I'm always looking for the Williams sisters when tennis is on, and I liked the Bulls during their second 3-peat. (I didn't like the Yankees continuous winning because I'm a Braves fan. ;D) Like I said before I got off the subject , I don't hate dominance. I hate players lording their dominance over other players. I dislike arrogance and inflated egos. The Lakers had and still have all that in abundance.

all champions have a little ego and must to keep confidence at the high level. you are talking hypocrisy southern niece-
you hate the teams you hate -but the BRAVES -
have won 8 STRAIGHT NL DIVISION TITLES AND HAVE BEEN IN THE PLAYOFFS 10 STRAIGHT YEARS- YOU DON'T HATE THAT DOMINANCE,HUH?
well, as a padres fan, one who saw the braves beat them up again (except for 1998 when we beat them to go the world series) , the padres fans are fed up with the braves winning all the time and we have more braves fans in san diego than padres fans!
that's why i said hypocrisy- everybody hates the good teams except the fan of a good team.
the braves have no competition- there's no team that's more regional than the braves- no team within 300 miles of the braves to compete for fans- that's why people in virginia, tennessee, north and south carolina, alabama, mississippi, georgia and arkansas and northern florida love the braves. nobody else to love!
within 100 miles, we have the dodgers, the angels, and the padres. within 350 miles we have the diamondbacks, the giants, and the a's .
that's 6 teams to share fans to the braves one team for 8 or 9 states!
the padres have a poor payroll of $35 million- the braves spend $95 million - is that fair?

kings put up a valiant fight. they lost in 7 games without c webb-but i'm proud of their effort. mavs will need a miracle to beat the spurs. spurs play defense, mavs do not.
it looks like nets-spurs for the finals- spurs win in 5 or 6.

Hypocrisy? Okaaay....
Did you read what I said? I don't believe so. I said, and I will quote myself DIRECTLY, "I don't hate dominance. I hate players lording their dominance over other players." Where does hypocrisy come in? I happen to like gracious winners and that's what I meant by my statement about not liking "arrogance and inflated egos."
I hate to tell you this, but you don't know why I like the Braves. I doubt very seriously it has to do with where I live. As I've already mentioned on this board, I also like the Yankees, and they play where? Uh-huh.

who's lording dominance? just because my lil ol niece says so? you must have this false impression of the lakers based on lack of experience. how many lakers games have you attended? how many lakers have you met and talked to?
i have been to lakers games since the 1980's. i have met several lakers including jerry west when he was gm, james worthy ,magic johnson, and got a letter from mitch kupcak their gm. i have been to clippers vs. lakers games -the clippers are the laughing stock of the league- but the lakers usually beat them and then GO OUT WITH THE CLIPPERS AFTERWARDS because the guys are very close with the clippers and made friends. before chick hearn died, he was so unbiased and gracious in his reporting and announcing that he almost sounded like the voice of the other team. he would always give credit to the other players no matter who made a good shot or play. shaq, kobe, fisher, horry ,madsen, shaw, make so many charitable appearances and donate to worthy causes and madsen spoke to my church a few months ago. he was very anecdotal and also humble . a nice guy to meet.
he said that those guys are so classy in their practices and that shaq gets so much press abuse that many guys can't understand how any one wouldn't go nuts, but he says that shaq keeps his cool cause he knows the price of fame includes constant attention and pressure.kobe is not the next jordan and he says it . he wants to be himself.
lords over ? not on your life.

I'm probably showing my naivete here, but why would I need to talk to any of them when I can see the arrogance in their press conferences and interviews? I might change my mind if I were to ever met Kobe, though; I admit that. But I doubt it. Okay.... I guess I have to make myself clear. I am NOT talking about the 80s or early 90s Lakers. I am NOT talking about GMs. I am talking about this Laker "dynasty" that supposedly started four seasons ago and ended Thursday night. I didn't say that they weren't friends with guys in the league. I wasn't talking about personal lives, either. Right... Okay, who was talking about Chick Hearn? Was he on the court playing with the other guys? He wasn't? Then I'm not talking about Chick Hearn. I bet those Blazers and the players of other teams you're so fond of looking down on also make charitable appearances and donate to worthy causes and you probably know that, yet you talk badly about them anyway. [Like Ivory says] So what's your point? Man, come on. Even a fool wouldn't even say, "I'm the next Jordan." Kobe couldn't be the next Jordan even if his name was Jordan. AND I NEVER SAID ANYTHING COMPARING KOBE TO MICHAEL JORDAN. Just so we're clear on that.

exactly hype, but time has shown shaq to be an excellent foreseeable choice.
chick hearn did have a lot of influence with the laker players, niecey. he was not just an announcer. he was very instrumental on how they were supposed to hold up a higher standard. players respected and loved chick -when magic had hiv- he went to chick first to tell him and they cried together. kobe went to chick when he was 18 and 19 and chick gave him lots of support and grandfatherly love.
blazers have done charity work, but when the owner of the club himself admits to his team having a terrible image due to criminal activities...
interviewers are also annoying and sometimes get way out of line with their ridiculous questions. shaq is also a comedian and loves to play the press. did you see how they suspended that guy in boston for 1 yr for saying bad things about jason kidd's wife? ABA will probably tell you he's been on the wrong end of some interviews.
why you are wrong is because you're defending a team of tattooed wife beating gun toting interfighting drug using players. kobe,an articulate intelligent person who has the command of 4 languages, and has married and has a clean body, you can't stand-you make it like he's arrogant! i hope he stays that way.
the lakers i am talking about like madsen and rick fox i've met are not 80's lakers.
you have yet to tell me who you 've talked to. i also know lee hacksaw hamilton and jim rome who have covered the lakers for years. i've called and talked to larry burnett of the lakers show and stu lance, the co announcer of the lakers who's been with them 15 yrs.
so as i defer to aba and mike in their tempts experience, you can have whatever opinion you may have about anything, but at least in this case don't base it on tv soundbytes!

Again I ask, what's your point? Your point? Why are you posting out of the way stuff? What does that have to do with ANYTHING I'm talking about? Okay, that was your first mistake. Please don't ever do that. You are allowed your opinion, but when mine doesn't agree with the one you hold about a team of guys you seem to practically hold up as gods, I'm WRONG? And you are sadly misguided. Don't tell me I'm wrong because I think differently than you. Right, and what is that on Shaq's arm? Isn't that a tattoo? Right... so you can take that out of your argument. You don't know anything about any of those players except what you've read in the news. And what business is it of anyone else if they do? Everyone has problems. Besides, there are 24 hours in the day. That's 12 hours of minding my own business and 12 hours of leaving other folks' business alone. It might not kill you to try that. That's obvious. I guess you didn't read what I thought I was making clear. I did answer that question indirectly. I guess I shouldn't expect you to see that when you don't read anything else I write. And to that I say, AGAIN, if I choose to dislike anything based on what I think, I WILL do that.

it is surprising to me that such an educated person would not understand basic english. it is obvious that you are a double standard person. again, hypocrisy in action. i read, you misunderstand. i digest, you spit out. you say that i should mind my own business. you are allowed your opinion, but i should mind my own business. hypocrisy. the same as those who go to church on sunday and disrespect their elders. the same who study - ever learning and never coming to a knowledge of the truth. i know it's hard living where you live . your life must be hard. you are someone i admire. don't talk bad about those who have it different than you. i hate shaq's tattoos. they are ugly and stupid. he is no superman either. he's just a large black man who plays basketball very well and gets way too much money and attention doing it. i worship the living God, not basketball players or the tempts or you. you are allowed your opinion. that's allit is. too bad you have no facts to back it up! oops, i forgot- your point? it also might behoove you not to think that at 19 you know it all. you might have some thing left to learn- like respectful talk. peace out.

And vice versa apparently.
I never said you weren't allowed your opinion. I meant by my simple statement that folks should look through their own closets for skeletons instead of rummaging through the closets of others. We all have our problems and personally I believe that no one has a right to judge another person or the actions of others. And we're talking about understanding basic English?
Was that directed at me? If so, come on out and say it. You can't hurt my feelings.
How is it hard living where I live? Why must my life be hard? I'm not sure I understand those statements. And I don't talk badly about anyone who lives differently than I do because they live differently than I do.
Somehow I knew that would get your attention. How come I feel like it's the only thing I wrote that you actually read and comprehended?
You insinuate at the very top of your last post that I don't understand basic English, yet you can't seem to understand me when I say, if I choose to dislike anything based on what I think, I WILL do that.
First, I'm 18. Second, I never said I knew it all. I know I don't know everything there is to learn. You have people in this world way older than me who are still learning every day of their lives; why would I think I knew everything? Once again, you're assuming things about me and you don't know as much about me or anything else as you might think.
I happen to think I'm one of the most respectful people I know, which really isn't a lot coming directly from me, but I know myself better than anyone else. One thing that I REALLY don't like people who don't know me trying to tell me about ME. I tend to get a little rowdy in those circumstances.
And another thing:
"You gotta give respect to get it." - Drumline "Respect is not to be expected but given 'cause it's real." - DMX
Something to think about.

Mike's BASKETBALL post has been ruined and since I am party to it I'm going to have to suggest that it end now.
My mother said we should get back to talking about the Tempts since that's why we're here. And I think a 45-year-old trying to argue down an 18-year-old (and vice versa) is kinda strange.
That's just my opinion. Continue to rail at me if you wish.
