Warning to the boys! This thread may actually bore you to DEATH!!!
Ok, I have a little bit of spare time in my life, I could a. clean my house b. go out and donate plasma to pay my living expenses when Dennis and Otis reunite for the ultmiate Reunion tour or c. start a craft project I'm gonna go with C! Being a slave to every fashion trend that comes down the pike, my latest fascination is with the cigar box purses.... www.denverpost.com/Stories/0,1413,36%257E11791%257E1072507,00.html www.cigarboxgifts.com/After seeing several cigar box purses on eBay with photos of Marilyn Monroe  Elvis  or the Beatles  I had the brainstorm of making my own Temptations-themed cigar box purse. Now this is a running joke between Kalisa and myself, but I'm serious! I have the box.....  Soon I will be adding a photo and other groovy stuff to make this the most kick butt cigar box purse that there ever was!  ......... or I may end up decopauging my hand to my face, who knows? But it should be interesting..........

Hey Ivory, being a slave myself to purses, pocketbooks, totes, etc - I've even tried a 12-step program to "kick this habit".... ;D- ( and those that know me have come to my home to "shop" in my closet for pocketbooks and such ...  I do understand your "obsession". Now, if and when you pull this off, and it's a kickin' Tempt's Cigar Box Purse, you just may have a taker up here in NYC. |

LOL! Well, thanks, but this initial purse is for my own personal use. I did think about IF the thing looked half-way decent, other people might want one as well and would I consider selling them? I haven't yet come up with a way to do it without my beloved RomeOtis suing me. ;D So I may have to start making "Former Lead Singers of the Temptations" cigar box purses. ha ha  |

Ivory, that is such a COOL project! I can't wait to view the progress. Do you use glue and varnish? I love the fabric idea...or wallpaper. The tassle is nice too.

You decopauge (sp?) the photos or whatever onto the box and then I think you go over it with a coat of varnish or something like that if you want it to have a shiny look.
I'm gonna get a photo of the classic five, a B&W photo and I think that will be cool against that "motown blue" (well, almost) background. The back of the box (which is actually the bottom) is just blank wood, so I have to come up with something for that. I've thought about gluing a 45 on the back, but don't know how practical that is. I've also thought about using my old concert ticket stubbs and doing a collage.
For a tassle, I'm gonna get one of those Poker chips that have a photo of the current Tempts on it. I think that will be kinda cool.
I've seen some pretty heft prices being asked for the purses, whether or not you can really GET that price is another matter.........

Wow! Awesome idea! I've always wanted to make a Dramatics purse but had no idea to do it...maybe now I can buy a plain purse and make me one.

Well, if I had a cigar box, I'd make a cigar-box purse, but since I don't smoke cigars (and don't know anyone who does), I don't know where I'd get a box. So I guess I'll probably end up making a regular purse, maybe one of those "hard plastic" purse.
