Those of you who don't like Shaq, don't have him on your team! The game is about getting the easiest shot for your team. Now it seems to me that if I had a guy on my team who gets 400 dunks a year, that not too bad. They don't get any easier than that! I believe the team that has won tha last three championships has had Shaq on it. What you're saying is you would prefer someone with a few flashy moves to win the game, when I'm saying just win the game however you can. I am just as entertained by a Shaq dunk as I am by a Tracey or Kobe move. It's still just two points.
Why is it that when a big man does well, you want to change the rules of the game. Nobody said that about MJ. Nobody is saying that about AI. Yet when Wilt started scoring, they had to widen the lane, add three second calls, make you stay behind the line to shoot free throws(yes, he used to dunk his), Kareem dominated so they took the dunk out of the game in HS and College and now they allow a stupid zone defense because of Shaq. It's ridculous! Why penalize the big man for being good?
And since the Lakers are not doing so well now, nobody is hollaring for Shaq's head cause the others are in front Just because you are big does not mean you win all the time; see Wilt Chamberlain. ;D

400 dunks a year, that's almost five during the regular season!!! That's pretty good!!! I'll take a dominant big man anytime, and let me worry about those around him.

LOL! @ the Soul man. See now Aba, I agree, I'll take watching Shaq knock everyone down over any alleyoopythang any time, or any no-look pass, or any of that other stuff. Watching that backboard shake when he get ahold of it ...... well, it just makes me all a-tingle! Almost as much fun as watching a quaterback get sacked, almost, but not quite!

Aba, Watching the Wizards-Bulls game last night and the standing ovation for Michael brought back memories. Watching the tears in his eyes, the smile on his face, the joy in his heart at hearing the welcome from Chicago reminded me about MJ's comments n a book written when he was in his 20's, Michael says that when he leaves basketball, that's it, he's left. He expands on it by saying he won't do the Dr.J. thing. That was the year Dr. J. and Magic had some sort of tour with a made-up team. MJ felt it was embarrassing watching diminishing skills although he greatly admired both players.
But that was youth talking. The confidence of youth that they will be able to handle retirement and nothing can bother them. And, of course, when MJ retired, he found he did miss basketball...very, very much. When they interviewed him at the end, he said how grateful her was for the ovation. ESPN asked him why he didn't come back in the game for the last few minutes when the crowd was chanting, "We want Mike!" 'We were ahead. I couldn't do that to the Bulls," as if he would come back in and add another 20 points in two minutes. Confident Michael. But the warmth in his voice showed just how much he loved Chicago and the Bulls. And their present coach.
It's hard to be in a field where you have to retire when your heart still says, "Play!"

Aba I don't think that the big man should be penalized. Kareem is one of the greatest players of all time I just feel that his game was more well rounded than Shaq's game. Shaq just doesn't do it for me I have nothing against him but he's just big and that's all he has going for him but in this era of the NBA that's really all that is needed.

Sometimes Shaq size gets in the way, sometime it gets the basket. SOmetimes he should be fouled, sometimes he shouldn't.
Who is the man, that can jam over any man?

The game starts with a good big man!. You can have the first pick cause I know you want Michael Jordan but I'll take Wilt Chamberlain and we can go from there. There too many guards for me to be worried about fielding a team around Wilt that could beat anybody. Give me Wilt and you can have the next two picks. Live by the jump shot, die by the jump shot. The slam dunk never has an off night. Give me Wilt or give me death! ;D
I saw the game last night and it was nice to see the maturity of MJ. Those fans were the ones who supported his efforts and they love him as they well should.

The greatest 5 ever are: Wilt, Russell, Bird , Magic, MJ
One cannot argue over the greatness of one of them over the others. All were champions in their era. The true greatness of their teams always revolved around the level of #2 - #8 on their team. One player cannot win a championship by himself.
Try naming the next 5 greatest ever. It is really hard.

Where are you putting Russell? He was a center! Is he playing power forward?

I'll take Kareem or even Thurmond, if I couldn't get Wilt. A big man works wonders, especially if you know how to use him.

Kim I don't know how much you saw Wilt but Shaq is the first center since him to posess his power. Wilt played against Thurmond, Russell, Jabbar, Bellamy, Reed to name a few. Shaq does not have the same kind of competetion. But he does play like Wilt. Not as good a defender or shot blocker but Wilt had the finger roll and the fadaway and a dunk and that pretty much was it. But he was unstoppable.

The next five greatest. Well, I'm not sure if those named are the five greatest.
But the next five could include
West, the big O, Baylor, Kareem and the greatest player rarely seen, Bob Petit.

That's kind of my point, SS. When you make a trade in the NBA, you always want to trade up, not down. It is too hard to find a good big man. Don't be trying to just get some guy who's gonna grab ten rebounds and not want the ball. Ben Wallace can't play center for me. I'll put him at power forward. but not center. Not against these guys. guards: Robertson, West, Frazier, Cousy, Johnson, Monroe. A dime a Dozen. Robertson is the best guard ever. A triple double for a whole season, come on man.
