horrible news out of kinston at the pharmaceutical plant. what a nightmare. life is too precious, and never take it lightly. our hearts and prayers go out to the victims and their loved ones of this horrible tragedy .
there must be an extra precaution taken at businesses for safety and security to prevent this from happening again. we can't just say, oh, it was faulty this or that. there should be routine regular checks on materials, handling of dangerous items, and facilities safety and compliance withtin the state and federal laws.
i know tdalgalpal wasn't there, but she's in north carolina and i'm sure it hit the folks pretty hard.

It has been a rough couple of months in NC. Ice Storm, plane crash, snowstorm, pharmaceutical plant fire. I know disasters happen all over, but we sure have had our share of tragedies this winter.

Sukkafu- This is the latest article about the plant from the newspaper this morning. Posted on Sun, Feb. 02, 2003 Investigators explore wreckage in plant The scene `is consistent with' ignition of dust ANN DOSS HELMS Staff Writer Charlotte Observer After getting their first look Saturday at the blown-out walls and twisted steel in the ruins of the West Pharmaceutical Services plant near Kinston, investigators were amazed so many workers escaped Wednesday's deadly blast, a spokesman said. Investigators do not yet know the cause of the fiery explosion that killed four workers and left nine others with critical burns. A two-hour exploration of the smoldering wreckage confirmed that the blast took place in the mixing area, said Sandy Gilmour of the U.S. Chemical Safety and Hazards Board. The scene "is consistent with" the theory that microscopic rubber dust particles ignited, Gilmour said, but Saturday's investigation "raised as many questions as it answered." When the plant exploded Wednesday afternoon, shooting flames into the air and scattering debris for two miles, 122 of the factory's 250 workers were on the job. Three died immediately, and another died Friday of burns. Nearly three dozen workers were injured; nine remained in critical condition Saturday at the N.C. Jaycee Burn Center in Chapel Hill.
