I have been searching and searching the internet to see who went to the Sacramento concert.
When I saw Kalisa had posted at such an unusual hour, I thought, "Ah, ha!" Thanks, Kalisa, for posting so quickly.
And I'm glad you mentioned what they wore. I was begining to wonder if they had suddenly gotten all new suits. But this thread says "Sacramento." I thought they were in San Diego.

Oops! See my mistake. Yesterday I was searching for a review of the San Diego concert, and when I saw your report that was still on my mind. I completely forgot about the Sacramento concert.
Now, I still have to find out what they wore to San Diego.

[During the break, I overheard a man behind me saying "There have been 15 Temptations". I used my ladylike restraint to good purpose and did NOT slap him with "There have now been 20... And you just saw one of those 20! Do try to keep up, friend!!". Nope, I didn't say a word.]
You may not like this, Kaisa, but I often have the same sorts of thoughts and reactions.
When we'd go somewhere like the Superdome and someone was taking flash pictures, my husband would turn to me and say, "Don't you dare tell him how to take the picture." But I always thought it would be useful information to have, that those little flashes won't go over ten feet and that he was wasting film. But there were other techniques he could use.

Great review, Kalisa. I'm glad to see that GC passed your stringent inspection! And I'm looking everywhere for Levi's plaintive cry! I know I have it somewhere here in my collection. I like that they are going back to the exits that they used to do all the time. I like them singing their way off stage. One thing you didn't mention was Terry's voice which has been a hot topic of conversation around here lately. How did he sound? Once again thanks for the great review!

Wow, if you think GC did a great job that's saying something!!! I'm impressed!
Also glad to hear that they apparently did a full version of Losing You. HOW many years have I been saying they need to include that song?!!!!!

And I would like to see them redo their "I Can't Get Next to You" performance in 1969 on the Ed Sullivan show with the exact same V shaped spread of Tempts and the exact same choreography. I play that video over almost every night. Love it!
Now I've got to figure out a way to convince them to do this. Exact same formation, exact same choreography. And if they don't have the video to see how they did it, they can borrow mine.

I prefer thinking that it is not that they don't remember exactly how it was done although I've heard Smokey Robinson say he doesn't remember all the words to a great many of his earlier songs.
I think the available space on the stage is the factor today. On the Ed Sullivan show, only the lead singer (if that) was live. All the rest were lip-synching. So they did not have to worry about microphone placements. But the biggest factor was that then they were not sharing the stage with the band. I really don't see how with modern stage setups they could duplicate that magical moment.
But if they could, I wish they would.

Now listen,I got something in the mail yesterday, and when I opened it I saw a vhs tape of the PBS special starring the Review& the Spinners. UNCUT! It's been about 30 years since I've seen GC sing "It's A Shame". He did a good job on it AND the other Spinners tunes(Cupid). I remember someone said that they didn't like the way he sounded on the show,he sounds GOOD to me. I was impressed the way he handled himself. I'm sure he handled the Tempts tunes the same way,and if he did,you won't miss Bo. GC is a veteran performer who has had the benifit of a vocal coach(Maurice King) and the experience of the road and how to pace yourself. My concern was how much he had left. I didn't think he was Temptation material. He was not with the Spinners that long,so I was concerned. But after seeing that tape,I know GC can handle it. Now Otis-group fans can see some REAL singing from a vet like GC! I will go see him(as soon as I find someone to take me to see him,I don't spend my money with Otis).I noticed something else watching the tape. Dennis & The Review only did Dennis-led songs, which is fine with me. They did them well and the crowd seemed to enjoy them. They didn't sing My Girl,or Just My Imagination and STILL gave a good show! But I've come to EXPECT NOTHING LESS !Will get to see GC soon! temptsinfo.com/smilies/wtg.gif

Ok, my memory got jogged a little reading another board. The Tempts did "Memories", with GC on the lead. This is one of my favorite Dennis songs, and unfortunately I can't help compare. Obviously GC didn't impress me enough on this song to make it "stick"...he was competent and didn't suck, is about the best I'll give it. I'm looking forward to the time when GC has some of his OWN material going, so that the inevitable comparisons to Ruffin and Dennis won't have to be made. I think the man is talented, defintely a good Temp, and needs his own material. Maybe with time he can make some of the classic songs "his own", but not quite yet. At last....someone who understands me! Dennis songs are HARD to do. I would like to hear GC on that tune!

At last....someone who understands me! Dennis songs are HARD to do. I would like to hear GC on that tune! Dennis songs are hard to do? Are you kidding me? Dennis songs are Dennis songs for a reason. They are Dennis songs, cuz can't nobody do'em like Dennis. They are near impossible to do. But some can. To do Dennis you need Range and you need (not a technical term) Stank. Gotta be a Tenor. Can't be a run of the mill Baritone. To do Dennis you also have to be a storyteller. You gotta be able to put the story out. If you can't get the story out there, then you've lost. Of course I don't mind guys like Ali, Theo or Bo doing Dennis. Heck I like Terry (sometimes). Let's see what G(ot) C(onk) has to offer.
