You know, I agree with Sukkafu. "Treat Her Like a Lady" and "Lady" are not Tempt classics. What about "Stay"? All good songs, but are they classics?
First place, it takes a number of years to create a classic. A classic is something that passes the test of time, meaning people like it just as much after years have past. A classic anything passes the test of time. A book can come out and get rave reviews. Five years late everyone regards it as "over-rated." Also movies. A classic keeps getting better.
I think Sukka mentioned this with regard to some Tempt songs that won Grammys, but he felt other songs were much more highly regarded as years past. Or "I Want a Love I Can See" that didn't do much when it first came out but is fairly consistently played now. I forget how many hundreds of songs Smokey has written, but he sings "I Want a Love I Can See" in his act, even though he says no one knows it.

YES THEY ARE YES THEY ARE YES THEY ARE!!!! Treat and Lady Soul HAVE withstood the test of time, otherwise, the Tempts (and more importantly the Review) wouldn't be singing them!!!! Think about it, NONE Of the guys in the Review performed on the original recording of "Lady Soul," yet they still perform it. Why? BECAUSE IT'S A CLASSIC SONG!!! So there!

That's a good question. The Review should not sing those songs,I don't remember them singing Treat Her Like A Lady. They are not classic and not theirs,so get rid of them. They could replace those tunes with better ones like "Happy People,"Glasshouse",Shakey Ground,Don't Let The Jones Get You Down,Look What You Started,Do You Wanna Go With Me,Coolin' Out,Don't Look Any Further..............etc. They shouldn't waste time with the Woodson tunes! They don't have to! Let Otis& the gang do that. And Let Woodson do his!

temper tantrums are not very good example from our fearless leader.
all i can say is- on our radio stations, i hear all the classic tempts and mootown songs all day long. the tempts songs since 1980 i have no idea where to hear them on radio. the non rap soul r and b staions -we have 3 in so cal- never play any 80's ,90's or current tempts songs. only the classic pop or oldies stations play everything up to papa and nothing after.
if that's the test of time, although we might like some of those songs, and you have a right to love any song, airplay or not, then my girl and cloud 9 and papa etc, will be the classics and the others will fill boxed sets and anthologies.

Well, trust me, if you had access to an "old-school" R&B station you'd hear them. So there.

Love you Girl.....And he send his heart if he could to prove that what he says is True girl..... It's true Girl.
I think Treat Her Like A lady has a chance to be a classic. it is well recieved when it's played on radio on which is being played more and more. It was being played a lot on kiss and WBLS just before I moved down here to Texas. And I hear it more than I probably would even here. Now Lady Soul may have a difficult time getting to that lofty level. As much as I like it I don't think it will be a classic. It will strill take a few years to see where they both go.

Mike...I'm going to have to downright disagree with you.
Good music is good music, whoever is making it. If the Review does a song well, they should do it. If the Otis group does a song well, they should do it. If Ali does a song well, he should do it.
As Dennis said in an interview I read recently, BOTH groups (meaning Otis's and his) are really "Temptations Reviews"... Any Temptation song ever made is fair game, as long as it is done well.
And David Sea does "Lady Soul" beautifully. It isn't as gripping as his version of "I wish it would rain", but by your criteria, none of the Temptations Review group was there when "Rain" was a hit, either...so they should toss that also. I would be sad to see either one taken out.
