This one is so good it ALMOST got me ............. I received an unsolicited email from "eBay" stating that my account was about to be suspended if I did not contact them to resolve my "problems." A link took me to a eBay log in page (or a page that appeared to be one.) This is a VERY easy to fall for scam in an effort to get your eBay password and of course buy lots of used underwear with (or whatever ;D ) Anyway, BE CAREFUL, do not give your eBay password out to any unsolicited email even if it REALLY looks like eBay...... more....... www.auctionbytes.com/cab/abu/y203/m10/abu0104/s04

That's terrible. I was THIS close to falling for it and I consider myself pretty scam-proof.

That's terrible. I was THIS close to falling for it and I consider myself pretty scam-proof. UPDATE: I decided to contact Ebay again via Live Chat and informed the rep that I did not need photo id when I signed up years ago so why does ebay need it now...I explained the fake ebay emails and he said that they have received multiple complaints about the bogus emails and would be happy to assist me.....he had me change my password for my email account so that it would'nt match the password I used for ebay and he emailed me information to install the ebay bar which will inform me if the email is fake or not. I'm back in business, all my positive feedback is there and I can shop ;D. I'm normally good at recognizing a scam but in this case, I completely fell for it....never again..

This is the only part of the board where guests are allowed to post. That way if someone is having trouble logging in............

This is the only part of the board where guests are allowed to post. That way if someone is having trouble logging in............ OK . Maybe you want to put up an advisory about that ..just so that people will know they can ask about it in this category when they have trouble getting into other categories to post and aren't allowed...the might think, like I thought, that they couldn't post anywhere on the board as a guest.

OK, this is scary. I am an Ebay and Half.com Junkie. Thanks for this.
I don't think I've gotten this email before. But I'll still tone down my shopping just in case.

Following is the email ebay sent me...it includes a link to the ebay toolbar that detects the fake emails etc....they also request that you mail the fake emails here: Forward them to spoof@ebay.com for further review Here are some precautions to take in the future to keep your account safe and secure: First, there have recently been a number of emails sent to eBay members asking for user IDs and passwords. These unsolicited and spoofed messages appear to come from eBay Support, but in fact are not. eBay would never ask for sensitive information of this nature via email. We have an eBay toolbar called Account Guard that will help you protect your account and indicate when you are on a real eBay or PayPal website. The link is www.ebay.com/ebay_toolbar Second, if you use a fairly simple or easy-to-guess password, it's possible someone could have guessed it after repeated attempts. For this reason, it's important to use a password that uses a combination of letters and numbers making it very difficult to guess. The same applies for the password hint question. It's also important to use different passwords for the various online accounts you use (email, PayPal, etc). Last, there are a number of computer viruses in circulation that log and record keystrokes. It's recommended that computer users keep their virus alert software up-to-date, and check their system often for problems. If you have a high speed connection such as Cable or DSL, a firewall also highly recommended not only to keep your eBay account safe but to also protect ALL your online activities. For additional information on obtaining a firewall, you will want to inquire at any local Computer Store.

FAKE - copy and paste the email and send it to ebay via live chat so that a rep can help....the past few days live chat has been down due to long hold times so they request you email them...I got around that by finding another link for chat and the wait time was less than 15 minutes....I'll see if I can find the exact chat link and post it in a few.....also email the fake to the address mentioned above.
