I'm from Maryland, but right over the DC line near Addison Road, Sheriff Road area. I went to Fairmont Heights High School (Go Hornets  ) in Seat Pleasant. Class of '74. I haven't lived there since '76 went I left college at UNC-G in Greensboro, NC to get married and move to Cheyenne, Wyoming. |

tdalgalpal- i lived in maryland in takoma park and silver springs and also in d.c. and i had lived in harford county during high school and during my first marriage.
you lived in cheyenne! i used to go to cheyenne for church dances!
i lived in greeley,colorado- 50 miles south!

We went through Greeley often on the way to Denver. Denver was our 'escape' from cowboy country.  I fell in love with Ft. Collins, Estes Park, Loveland and Rocky Mountain National Park. |

Born in DC off 13th and Brentwood Road NE, mother-in -law in Takoma Park, Brother in Silver Spring and I went to the most famous hs in DC. McKinley Tech Trainers number 1 in the country in BB with Boys High of Ny one year.. Fairmont Heights...huh? You're the first person I met that went to that school. Do you remember WOOK and WOL radio and the Wook Dance Party on TV. I used to go on there and dance. I wanted to be a "regular" but my girl wasn't having it. I was a dancing thing....! |

Do you remember Dave Bing, Aba? He went to Fairmont Heights. Fairmont Heights was an all-black high school (until 1970) in Prince Georges County Maryland. FHHS won a series of state championships in Track and Field throughout the 60's and 70's that was unheard of. FHHS teams ruled the Penn Relays in that era. They owned the National record in the Mile Relay for years. I'm really surprised you never heard of Fairmont Heights. They had really good football and basketball teams back then as well. I guess DC was really a world away - even though I lived less than 1 mile from the DC line.

Of course I knoe Dave Bing but I thought he and Elgin Baylor went to Spingarn. No I take that back. Elgin went To Cardozo the same school as Marvin Gay and my mom. I thought Dave went to Spingarn. I heard of Fairmont Heights but you know bout us. We was high and mighty whuppin' up on any scholl that found its way to 2nd and T sts NE. I remember your school just didn't know anybody that I coud think of who went there. We never played you guys. I think you probably played Mackin and Dematha. I was in HS the same time as James Brown NFL FOX TV. He was player of the year in BB in 69 in DC and he went on to HArvard.

Easy now! JB went to Dematha and then to Harvard before being drafted by the Washington Bullets and getting cut. Then he went into TV and the rest is history!

Since Fairmont Heights is in PG County, Maryland, we played Central, Gwynn Park, Bladensburg, Largo, Potomac, Friendly, etc. Dave Bing grew up in Cheverly, MD - 5 minutes from my house. His sister, Mitzi graduated 2 years behind me.

I may be wrong about where which school Dave graduated from. I know a lot of high school sports stars transferred to more 'premier' programs in DC to get a better shot at scholarships to Division I colleges. So... he might not have finished at FHHS. Mitzi did though ;D
