GC would still be a tempt but his back was so bad he was hard for him to perform, he did otis a favor to keep performing until they found a replacement. My brotha in Temptations quoted this post awhile back, yea I snatch it to post over here because I felt it was relevant to the conversation and maybe it would clear up some of that Bull. I hope no one gets offended if so I can par phrase "Normally I don't go into great detail about Temptation affairs out of respect for my father, but the truth must be told, plus I thought you'd guys and gals would be interested in what I just found out considering G.C.'s "Bad Back" and all. It just so happens I get a phone call from my father[Glenn Sr.] this afternoon, just keeping in touch, and we starting talking about G.C., being that G.C. and pops have been working together as of late. So I ask about what really happened with G.C. and the Temps. Because I just read that G.C. has a horrible back problem that caused him not to be able to perform which led to him being replaced by the new guy Bruce, I tell him. After laughing briefly, Pops goes on to state that G.C. left the group because Otis gave G.C. and Joe a contract, which states that not only do they not receive royalties for record sales but they are forbid to join any other Temptation like groups once they're not Temptations anymore. Also G.C. nor Joe hasn't received a dime for the albums Reflections or Legacy. Here's the sick part, Otis is suing G.C. for leaving, yet Otis is getting all the royalties and and all concert revenues. We're talking millions of dollars while keeping everyone else on salary including including Ron. Pops says he feels bad for Ron and Terry for putting up with Otis's bullsh*t this long. Pop also said look for Joe to split too in the near future for the same reason. He said the chemistry between he and G.C. is incredible. He said it reminds him of Eddie and David or Paul and Eddie when they trade vocals or just start ad libbing together. He said G.C. has great feel and timing and Otis had no clue what he had because he doesn't allow people to be themselves. He said G.C. wants to continue his solo career as well as work with his group. Now, It sounds to me somebody's lyin' " NOW TELL ME THAT'S NOT A MESS!

Oh yes! I forgot about that article ... And to me it looks as if (at least) most of the members in O's group left for similar reasons. While Terry can sing, he certainly hasn't a remarkable voice. So he may be smart enough not to leave The Temptations, considering what has happened to most of his former co-workers which had even great voices. Now, Ron -- as much as I loved his voice in its prime -- he is definitely over the hill. His voice is gone, imo.
((stilltempting)) I don't understand what you mean by the review singing material not of their own? Why would that contribute to their staying together for that long? Also, I think most of O's lineups did the same; they came from other groups than the Tempts like The Spinners, The Futures etc.

Is it me or does it seem like any group where Otis isn't included seems to stay together? Dennis' group, Richard Streets group, Ali Ollie's group, and even Theo has been with the Tops since 97, 98 with no problems. Things that make you go hmmmmm....... No Paul Williams Jr was not fired, as far as I know. I didn't mean to insinuate anything. I was just pointing out the switch in members (Ali then him, then ALI again. ) The point is, all of these groups have inner group issues, even Glenn's. ;D Who knows whats going on behind closed doors. The difference is, either their business is kept quiet, or the more likely instance (IMO) nobody cares about it. They are not doing nearly as many shows, or to the magnitude The Temptations are, so they are not in the public light. They don't have numerous It all comes down to the mighty dollar. O is and has been for a while now a popular target. I think it's CRAZY. Lets just love and live... LOVE the music and LIVE your life. Temptations Forever.....

I was never a GC fan, but it seems he got a raw deal. The Tempts today are about Otis, it seems that ge will plug in any decent voice so he can do the concerts. Their day is long gone and now it's about the money. Both Otis and Dennis are at that age where all they can do is keep the concerts going. It seem that the new tempts coming in have only tempt jobs. If Joe Herndon leaves the temptations that will be another loss. Terry is not being used to showcase his voice. The temptations are a mess, but the saving grace is the memories of the Original 5 plus Dennis The Doctor T

I agree. And I think O's lucky to have the rights to the name "Temptations" to -- because, essentially, that is all that's left of the group ... in addition to himself, of course. I also understand that it must be very hard for him to let go.

It should end whenever Otis goes... actually it's hard for me to see a point now. Once upon a time, you could hear the lead and 4 voices harmonizing. That last album sounded like a lead singer with a wall of one voice magnified. They're not the Inkspots. Groups come, have their golden era and disband.

Cadeho, I agree with everything you've said especially about golden era and disbanding. But if that had of happened before now we would not have this forum per say to share Eddie's, Paul's Melvin's and David's Legacy with inquisitive new fans nor to keep voicing are opinions and hearing some darn good oldies! Remember Cadeho this is TemptsInfo.com

yea but you have to remember its easy keep a group of guys together that was never even part of the real temptations, there just singing another groups hits, so what do they really have to argue about. There not recording any CDs an though the tempts have had some lead changes you have Ron who's been in the group 25 years, terry who has been a tempt for 10 or so years, GC would still be a tempt but his back was so bad he was hard for him to perform, he did otis a favor to keep performing until they found a replacement. I also Don't believe Joe is not going to go anywhere as well. That back reason is b-------t, G.C. left because he asked Otis for his money for the Legacy and Reflections cd's and Otis refused to pay up, Period.

I have always seen Otis as a Parasite and a Crow, he feeds off the energies and talents of his fellow group members. He has been hiring and firing from as early as I can remember, he is the problem, he is one of the reasons why Eddie left. Check Otis’s past, what did he achieve as a Distant? What was his input when they were the classic5? Eddie was responsible for all the vocal arrangements for the group, he co-wrote songs, those snazzy suits were his idea and he could sing. He was also a very compassionate person, he was there for Paul and David when they needed him, and he and Dennis were still friends when he left the group. He never left them up and he died a poor man with Womack holding a benefit concert to help his family, where was Otis who claimed that these guys were his brother and he loved them. DENNIS MADE THIS STATEMENT AFTER DAVID’S FUNERAL AND I BELIEVE HIM. I QUOTE “"I'm not knocking the other group of Temptations...I love them, but the last three or four years, David Ruffin was working with Eddie Kendricks and me," Edwards says. "We went through the pain with David. We went through his ups and downs. They didn't go through any of that. In fact, when you get out of their group, they don't even call anybody. When I looked up on the stage, and they orchestrated this thing to sing 'My Girl'--I never liked to sing 'My Girl' because that is David Ruffin's song--I just could not let them take that whole stage like they loved him so much. (So) I sung some myself because I said, 'You guys never loved him like I loved him.'"
Paul could sing, write music and he was responsible for those trademark moves until Gordy assigned Cholly (or whatever his name was). Paul died a poor and broken man, where was Otis? David !! well we all know the story there, I personally believe that that David wanted to get back in the group, that is evident from his action of jumping on stage at various venues where the Temps performed, and then some if you listen to some of his music (eg. My whole world ended, the moment you left me), do you believe that he is singing about a woman? No he is singing about his cut for the group. David was a very talented individual,” My Girl “ was and still is a masterpiece. David needed serious help, Eddie tried but Otis was adamant that he could not re-join the group. Melvin and Dennis has proven their worth time and again, I also believe that Melvin stayed all these years because he and Otis were friends and it was Otis who had brought him into the group. Does anyone know if back in the day there was a legal document naming Otis as leader of the group? I wonder. From what I have read, he seems to be the sole franchise holder of the Temptations name, I don’t think this is right if it is so, I believe that Paul, Eddie and Melvin’s heirs should be paid royalties since the forming of the group was a joint effort between Paul, Eddie and Al Bryant of the Primes and Otis and Melvin of the Distants, who came together to form the Elgins , and were later renamed the Temtations. Now Don’t get me wrong , I am not saying that Otis was responsible for the well being of the group, but how come he comes out smelling like a rose and spent so much time bad mouthing the others in his so called Bio. Then he has the audacity to say that he did’nt have control over how the material was presented in the movie, only because he lost the court case GIVE ME A BREAK. Some day the world and true Temptations fans will know the truth, but it will be from somebody else’s perspective not Otis. And as my dad would say OTIS “time longer than twine” Thank you

Me too Clio...I love every member of the Tempts in their own way and I have the utmost respect for Otis
Without Otis, the Temptations might have been a one hit wonder There have been so many good groups that could not hold it together Otis has kept these huge talents (and egos) working together The Classic 5....the years with Dennis....and all the many years since Look how long Ron Tyson has been with them Without Otis we might have one or two great songs from the mid 60's and people would say "Yeah those Temptations had a few good songs, too bad they broke up"
And...while I admire and respect the talents of all of them, let's get real...it had to be hard to put up with addicts and egomaniacs....
No disrespect but it is a KNOWN fact that various members had various problems and they had to go.
Otis has kept the Temptations together, and keeps the legacy going Temptations forever

Lindyloo...I know you posted that months ago..however you posted wrong info Otis and Mevlin (Melvin's Heirs) own the rights to the Temptations name so yes, Melvin's heirs benefit from that There is a lot of misinformation out there and I personally hope to jump in and correct it when I see it...and if I am wrong, please feel free to correct me I think we all have a love for the music or we wouldn't be here right???

I have been reading everyone post for awhile now and I have tried to remain neutral in my opinions but, this is starting to get very old. I am 54 yrs old and I have been to the concerts of every line up the Temps have put forward. Each and every lineup brings in their own identity to the Temps legacy. If we each wanted to, we could pick and bring out deficiencies in each. Ladies and Gentleman The Temps are the Tempts. Each lineups had songs that were appropriate to the times of which each occupied. Yes, the times have changed from the 60's, 70's etc. In the era of rap, and women and men taking there clothes off to sell music, to distract you from the fact that they cannot sing a lick and for the most part are studio artist.(notice I did not say vocalist)can it only be evident that groups like the Temps are not selling as in the times I mentioned before.(side note: The less clothes you have on and your slinging of your sexuality the less you can actually sing) The music era has changed., you all know it..I am preaching to the choir. But please understand it is monumentaly unfair to the guys for each of us to rip the current line up and say they don't compare to the "classic lineup" etc. You are listening with a different set of bias ears so to speak. As I stated before each and every lineup has it's positives and negatives. Let's say this, just think about this. Every lead or former Temps that has left the group, how successful are they with the complete package. Listen to the harmonies that they put down. I call the group the six Tempation. The sounds, the backup vocals cannot be compared or duplicated. Period point Blank. Enjoy what you have cause if they stop this, we will be missing the lustful harmonies and sweet sounds and a segment that will never return. Ladies and Gentleman the Tempts are the Temps. Enjoy Them

I read years ago where Dennis talked about how the Temps "orchestrated" an underhanded move by singing "my girl" at David's funeral....so he felt the need to protect the song's honor by jumping in ...Well 1st of all "my girl "was not David song,he sang lead on it while a member in the group..it's a Temptation song!!!But if any of you are fortunate enough to have the "Street Gold"video,go back and look at the beginning and listen at Ali and Richard mainly with the other Temps, and you'll see IMO why Dennis broke-in the way he did,and that's because he heard the way Ali was "laying leather"to that song(probably made David sit up a lil bit in that coffin) that he had to remain relavant in some way, so he broke-in and ruined what I thought was a beautiful acapella version of "My Girl"...Also look at Eddie's reaction,he just lowered his head, shakes it and gives a little embarresed-looking smile to Dennis's behavior..Ali was about to "turn "that church out,and I think Dennis sensed that as well,so he poured water on that fire before it got out of hand...If we're gonna question and dispute everthing that Otis says or do,and not do the same to Dennis and the rest of these ex-Temps then we need to look at ourselves, because that not being "Fair and Balanced"!!Temps 4 Ever....
