I've always wondered why the Tempts recorded two versions of " It's Summer " the first with Melvin on lead and the second with Dennis on lead. They were both good but I've always wondered why they did that . Anybody Know ? Psychadelic Shack version temptsinfo.com/media/songs/it's%20summer%20Melvin.rm Solid Rock version temptsinfo.com/media/songs/it's%20summer.rm (I'm having technical problems this morning, y'all will have to copy and paste those links into your browser address bar instead of clicking on them. ~ Ivory)

T'fan, hope you don't mind me uploading the clips to your post. Now this is one song I like Melvin leading on. It's a good question, they've done other songs twice. Did you know that the Solid Rock version only has four Tempts? Can't remember who's missing on that one, but someone is.

Did you know that the Solid Rock version only has four Tempts? Can't remember who's missing on that one, but someone is. Well, we can hear Dennis and Melvin clearly, and I presume that's Damon on the top? So either Otis or Richard have to be the missing party... Unless someone is covering the top-end for Damon which for some reason I would doubt .... someone more familiar than I with Otis's and/or Richard's voices should be able to pick out who isn't there, by elimination... (I think it sounds like Richard singing the "Children will be playing in the park..." part but I guess it could be Otis...)

Yeah, that's Richard on "Children will be playing in the park................"
.......... and that higher voice you hear on the chorus is Richard also. "Magic in the air, green grass everywhere...."

I thought we solved this two years ago.. it's clearly AL on the high part!
Actually I thought we agreed it was Otis. However doesn't Otis' book say that song's line-up was himself, Dennis, Melvin, and Paul? However, that is Richard...

Otis said it was him doing the high tenor in the '...magic in the air...' part. Since it was a time before they recorded with Damon but after Eddie (They didn't record/release anything with Ricky), I could imagine it. But also, it sounds like Otis - with the slow vibrato. The lineup at the time of recording was Otis, Melvin, Dennis, and Richard.

that high end is OTIS? Well, he certainly climbed MY ratings ladder a few rungs with THAT news! I can tell the second voice we hear in "summertime ...time ...time...time" is Richard, so #3, the high one, must also be Otis? C'mon, wheres the chimer's-in "Otis can't sing..." ? :laughing :laughing

Now, see ........... if you had been to more Tempts concerts you would have heard O sing "IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII" on that part of "Imagination" where they go "IIIIIIIIIIIIIIII ............ can visualize it all......." and point up in the air. I've seen/heard him do it about 40,000 times so *I* know he's got it in him ............ and if you doubt me, just ask Jane or Coey and they'll tell the same thing. Yep, the man CAN sing!
