NEWS - Aretha Franklin Kicks Off New Tour 06/17/2003 (6/17/03, 7 a.m. ET) -- Aretha Franklin kicks off her the Queen Is On!!!... 2003 Tour on Tuesday (June 17) in Boston at FleetBoston Pavilion. Next week, on June 23, Arista Records will release the song "The Only Thing Missin'," which is the advance single from her new, still-untitled album. The Queen Of Soul plans to perform the new number in addition to her classic hits. As an added surprise, each concert will include at least one special-guest duet performance. Confirmed guests so far include Cissy Houston, Ronald Isley of the Isley Brothers, Dennis Edwards of the Temptations, and Ali "Ollie" Woodson, also of the Temptations. The highly anticipated new album is scheduled for release on September 16, and features all-new tracks recorded with a variety of producers, including the famed contemporary team of Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis in addition to Burt Bacharach, Troy Taylor, and Gordon Chambers, among others. Franklin has also called the new tour her "semi-retirement" tour. Another intriguing element to ponder over. There seems to be a huge increase in the number of Classic R & B acts performing together. Although the Tempts and the Tops have done this for twenty years, adding the O'Jays and Whispers is practically like doing a Motown Revue of yesteryear.
Posters have mentioned being disappointed in current R & B songs. I wonder if this reaction by people is being noted which is why more and more of the Classic acts are performing. And then there are the PBS Rhythm and Blues fundraisers, and not just one show but three I can think of at the moment.

a big reason why they do these shows is because the largest segment of the population are the baby boomers. being born from 1946-1964, they would appreciate the motown and old school songs.

I guess she doesn't want to stay on the bus that long to make the trip out West. She might want to reconsider since Cher, Tina Turner and Kiss have rake in massive amounts of money (Especially Tina since she costed me $100) for the "farewell" tour.
