I remember "Special" well. It was the last Temptation album I bought on vinyl and the vinyl was a lousy pressing by the way--seems by the mid '80s labels skimped on the record quality for cassettes and then CD's.
I like that extended version of "All I Want From You" with Ali's scat too.

Loveline!!!!! That one is good and also Go Ahead with ALi!! 10 hours a day........and fifty a week............I work my fingers to the bone................did all that I could............to make life good............and bring the bread and butter hooooomeeee!!!!
Special is my favorite ALi song!!!

REMEMBER IT? I GOT THE CD. "SPECIAL" WAS THE 1ST ALBUM TO FEATURE ALI-OLLIE REJOINING THE GROUP AFTER DENNIS LEFT FOR THE 3RD AND LAST TIME. THAT WAS WHEN THE TEMPS DECIDED TO ABANDON THEIR TRADITIONAL R&B ROOTS AND GO A LITTLE HIP HOP TO REACH YOUNG FOLKS--SONGS I LIKE ARE THE TITLE CUT AS WELL AS "FRIENDS," "GO AHEAD," "ALL I WANT FROM YOU," AND THE GOSPEL TUNE "SOUL 2 SOUL." THERE WAS ONE SONG THEY RECORDED DURING THE "SPECIAL" SESSIONS CALLED "MY KIND OF WOMAN." THE SONG FEATURED GUEST APPEARANCE BY GANGSTA RAPPER/ACTOR ICE-T. IT NEVER HAD A CHANCE TO APPEAR IN THE ALBUM, BUT IT WAS LATER RELEASED 5 YEARS LATER IN THE "EMPERORS OF SOUL" ALBUM.

Hey Kim!, Special and Hoops Of Fire are two songs I saw Ali the deliver the goods on many times live in concert and they both were done very well. Ali is the last of the great lead singers they had, IMO |

well said Aba....Ali was and is still a great singer. Otis should have worked out a deal with him Doc T well............I know they tried but it seems the business part keeps them apart. There can't be that much animosity if any at all since ALi contributed to their last cd. So it would lead one to believe that it is only about money. |

For me, it's no more than a 3 star effort coming and going. But what I still like about "Special" is that with all of the talented members, they didn't make too much junk. And as much as I like Dennis--I was glad to have Ali come back, the whole deal was fun, something I think the present edition of the Temptations lack...
