Whoever said " That's all we need, another Fantasia." doesn't know they're talking about in that instance. I believe that was me, and we are entitled to our own opinions. I agree. Kelly Pickler IMO talked too much and was booted off because of the annoyance factor. Carrie Underwood has no personality. I liked her too when that season was showing, but after the show and watching what she does now, I regret that she won. Kelly Clarkson seems to be the only American Idol winner that keeps the it factor going. I haven't heard anything from Reuben (sp) in forever. He was the only Idol contestant that I bought the CD for. I don't care for Clay Aiken style, and he wasn't the winner.

Oh, here we go. We know it's your opinion. But I'd like to know how is Paris 'another Fantasia'. They have competely different styles. Fantasia has a raw gospel tinge to her voice. Paris is more classic jazz/blues style, but can probably sing gospel too. I'll bet she's also more seasoned and polished than Fantasia was at her age. Fantasia is just about on the verge of running/riffing too much on a long phrase. If someone had said that Paris is another someone from 40-60 years ago, it would be more accurate.

Yes Paris does have a jazz/blues style, but lets me honest here. Any recording contract that Paris will get, will sound like Fantasia's album. She wont be putting out number 1 hits with the music she was singing on Idol. The point I was making is that 1. Kelly Clarkson- rock/pop 2.Ruben Studdard- R&B 3. Fantasia- R&B 4. Carrie Underwood- Country The next American Idol IMO, shouldn't be another R&B singer. I feel bad that Chris had to go, he would have given the rock genre something. Taylor IMO, would give a little of everything. rock/pop/blues etc

You don't really have to say IMO. We know it's your opinion. Anyway, the best R&B/soul singers in the competition are all gone. I'm just glad that Pickler is gone. She seems like such a dumb a$$. Almost every time she said something, it didn't make sense. I've felt that way even before she gave the "... train-shluz on mah ah-layshiz" statement. It's not totally a singing competition. Teenage and young adult hormones are in affect when voting. That's why certain people stayed in the running for so long. The last R&B type singer left is Elliott. He seems to love Donny Hathaway, as I do. I disagree with Paula. His best performance is when he sang the Donny Hathaway version of 'A Song For You'. If Elliott wins, it would not be the idol look that they are looking to market. If Katherine wins, she would be the weakest idol winner since the competition began. If Taylor wins, it would be the more ideal pick than the other two. I agree that Chris should've been here. But his slip started to show. This is the wrong time for that to happen. Paris, however, has had the most positive feedback from the guest artists. It's like she channels the soul of some of those classic artists. Oh yeah, is there a reason why you think Idol doesn't need another R&B artist as the winner? Is it because you might think they need to spread it out a little bit?

No one's arguing about whether you CAN say IMO. You just don't have to since you're saying it. It's already assumed that it's your opinion. Don't get so defensive. Was that all you had to say?

My problem is that in order to be in the entertainment business today, you have to have the total package. As vocally talented as Taylor and Elliot are, they don't have it unfortunately.
Katherine is a very good singer .............. but she LOOKS even better. And that's what being a pop idol is all about.
Call me shallow ............ but that's the truth.

Yes it is. Elliot doesn't have the IMAGE as far as pop idol for sure. Its too bad that image means so much to people instead of talent.

One factor present today is the rapid rate at which television eats talent and demands fresh meat. Whatever these contestants might be able to achieve, they still need training, experimentation, stage presence and a chance to flop. No matter how talented they are, they are going to make mistakes. Way back when they performed at smaller venues, not national TV before millions of viewers, and had a chance to learn how to use their native talent. I just feel sorry for these people. The truth is that if they had really mastered all their skills, they wouldn't need to be on American Idol. Now they will be eaten alive, tossed aside or whatever before they learn how to be an entertainer.

I don't have a problem with Elliott going home. Honestly, I would've sent him packing weeks ago...definitely before both Paris and Chris (you know, the REAL idols).
Neither Katharine nor Taylor is deserving of a recording contract IMO, but then neither is Hilary Duff...who, I believe, had the #1 album in the U.S. not all that long ago. Like Ivory said, it's about looks as much as (if not more than) talent these days.
I blame MTV...but, then again, I blame MTV for everything I dislike about American pop culture.
Watch one of those Time Life Music commercials -- especially the one for the pop songs of the '70s. Take a good look at the appearance of some of those artists. Many of them look like they should be on a sex offenders list somewhere. In an era when radio dominated -- and audiences primarily judged musical ability with their ears -- many of these artists didn't put a whole lot of effort into their "image." It was more about writing and performing quality music.
I wonder how many of those artisits could've gotten record deals in this era...where image seems to be everything?
C'mon, Britney Spears? Spice Girls? Ashlee Simpson? Lindsey Lohan? Ricky Martin? Billy Ray Cyrus? These are not terribly gifted people...unless appearance is taken into account.
Ace? Freakin' ACE??? He should've been gone before the dorky kid with the glasses if this was a true talent competition...which it is not.
Hey, we (the listening audience as a whole) only have ourselves to blame. Record companies latch on to whatever sells. Somebody's buying this garbage. That "somebody" can't all be 13-year-old girls, either. If they can keep making oodles of money by promoting attractive people with limited ability, there's no reason to invest in anything different.
I wonder how each of the C5 Tempts would've fared on Idol! Who would've been the first to go? Who would've been left standing at the end?
PS. Ivory lives! I think Sasquatch makes more public appearances. Glad to see you posting, Boss Lady!
