Did you see the Frankie Lymon movie? Didn't Little Richard play himself there? ... I think Leon's performance really showed David Ruffin the way people envisioned him to be. I've never met David in person, but I imagine him to have been exactly as Leon played him -- sort of. That's why the movie makes me so mad. It leaves people with a certain image of the guy, which is difficult to get away from. Bottoned down shirt and all :faint:

I didn't know that people envisioned David Ruffin and Little Richard as one & the same. No, no that's not what I was saying. The remark about Little Richard just popped up in my mind, because he played himself in that movie. And he was simply gorgeous. Of course, Leon is a talented actor and portrayed the "star" Ruffin as people wanted to see him. See, I loved everytime, David showed up at a show, ready to create a little disturbance ... that's what people want to see. Whether David's motives were the same as those portrayed in the movie, is of little importance in entertaining the viewers. And entertainment this movie was -- nothing else.

Re: Leon as David Ruffin In the early nineteen sixty's the Temptations were not my favorite group. I did like one song Eddie sang and I played it a lot. When I saw the movie The Temptations on TV it brought back a lot of happy memories. In the movie I didn't see David as the bad guy I saw him as a man that was insecure and looking for acceptance. Drugs can make a good person do bad things. On tapes I have you can see the affection and love David shows for Eddie. They must have been very close. So I think Leon did a good job in portraying David in the film. It made me a Temptations fan.

Eddie was one of the only people in this world who would accept Ruff for who he was ... and Knew his personality ... If you listen to The last interview with Ruff and Cornbread ... David cuts off Eddie in the middle of a sentance to make a joke ... and Eddie Laughs and keeps talking ... He knew Ruff had to be funny at times and let him do his own thing ... To me ... There was a special bond between the 2 ... ;D

Miguel Nunez, Jr played the younger Little Richard in 'Why Do Fools Fall In Love?'
