Watch Bones Jacket when he is leaving after Josephine puts them out the car, his mac is out of his jacket. The same food is used through the whole movie. But I still love the movie

Concert info wrong...LOL...they list GC Cameron « Result #10 on Nov 12, 2009, 9:05am »
Well isn't this silly LOL>>> I am going to this concert the night before New Years....good deal and seems like a nice venue, smaller than most that the Tempts play in (they go to Orlando for New Years and the tickets cost a lot more, not to mention crowds)
So...I am excited, got tickets..and I am looking at the webpage again and....check it out....duhhh....they have the wrong "line up" listed LOL..
"Newest member G.C. Cameron’s discography spans three decades and reflects the influences of his musical mentors, Sam Cooke and Curtis Mayfield. His musical roots can be traced to rural Mississippi, where he was born and raised. The front man for the Motown group, The Spinners for many years, and later a Motown solo artist, he brings an artistry of creativity to the group."
Helloooo......Bruce Williamson, the "big guy" replaced him
they do have a current picture of them , with Bruce
I am calling the theater to set them straight
Probably some one at the theater just googled the Temptations and put up whatever they found
Just think...they might have included David, Eddie and/or Dennis with this sort of attention to detail haha

Re: Did Melvin ever sing in a group named "Metros? « Result #14 on Nov 11, 2009, 7:49am »
Hi Anna...I agree, the intro might be from another recording? but I don't think it was Melvin the name of the song is (oddly IMHO) What's Wrong With Your Love: (version 2) so maybe the intro is from "Version 1"??
The year of the recording...1967 ..and fact it was on RCA is pretty much proof it is not Melvin I think. I doubt Gordy lent his star singers to RCA for a debut effort LOL
Of course..."in house" was a different story....I have read/heard that many of the Motown stars helped out on particular tracks when needed.....much as the same way that the Funk Brothers and the The Andantes were used by all of them
(The Tempts only used the Andantes on one or ? songs but they were on most of the Four Tops and did most of the background work for other groups, some say they did a lot of the singing for the various girl groups)
Otis says in his book that the Temptations sang back up on other artists songs when needed There is an interesting clip of them backing Mary Wells live (4 of them...it was right before David joined them)
Berry Gordy was such a shrewd businessman....he "recycled" by having two or more artists record them and then let the best seller "win"....and you can bet he would have another singer jump in to fill in to finish a recording
However, by 1967 the Temptations were at the top of Motown and stars..so I don't think they were filling in for other groups then Their days of that were when they were signed to Motown but couldn't get a "hit" song.

Hey esty!
Thanks a lot for the link to the article. I am almost sure, it is Melvin, now that I know more about the Metros ... (Don't know why I didn't dig the post up myself?) Also, The Metros seem to be a group worth of a little more research, according Oliver Wang.
Okay here's the song ... What do you think? It somehow sounds as if the intro were actually from a different recording ...
"The Metros were a Detroit quintet comprising singers Fred Mitchell, Percy Williams, Robert Suttles, James Buckman and Gordon Dunn. "
Apparently they had one album, released in 1967...when of course the Tempts were having hit after hit!!
soul-sides is a UK based website
Melvin was in a group called VoiceMasters (Voicemasters?) then he met Otis when he was 18 and their group/s would "become" the Temptations (Otis W and the Siberians, OW and the Distants, the Elgins>>>>> the TEMPTATIONS)
I have been listening to Melvin in "A Precious Love"....that is such a great use of his powerful deep voice.... Don't Deny our Precious Love!!
Did Melvin ever sing in a group named "Metros?" « Result #20 on Nov 7, 2009, 10:16pm »
I just found a recording (What's Wrong With Your Love) whose intro is spoken by someone who sounds like Melvin. Does anyone know more about the group or the song?

Sounds Of Soul Event « Result #22 on Nov 6, 2009, 4:46pm »
Hi everybody!
I was trying to find more singers (both male and female) with soft, creamy, velvety voices such as Jerry Butler's or Joe Simon's or Louis Price's. I just can't come up with very many. So, I thought I might ask you to help me create a list of, say, 10 or 12 creamy voiced singers. Please send your suggestions to btexpress944@gmail.com or contact me directly at http://raggedy-soundofsoul.blogspot.com/ I will post them as part of the Soft, Creamy, Velvety event on my blog. A few words about the artist/song would be nice -- I'm looking forward to hearing from you.
live temps chat « Result #27 on Nov 2, 2009, 12:04am »
hey people, how about trying to find a way to have a live chat about the mighty temptations! years ago i used to host a live chat-nite about the temps on monday nights, and i have to tell you, it was a big hit! we would chat about a group member, or an album, or a song. just something to think about. -temptations forever!-
o' mother of mine. « Result #29 on Nov 1, 2009, 8:28pm »
does anyone know if the temps very first song; o' mother of mine is worth anything? i have the original copy of it, and i even had it autographed by mr. otis williams himself. i also have the "PIRATES" 45 single, also autograhed by otis.
(esty) you'll have to come shopping where I live lol The grocery store -- I'm almost certain -- has a Tempts fan in charge of the music selection. They play the good old Tempts stuff quite often. I must say that I have yet to hear a cover of The Way You Do ... that I really like. No matter who sings it. Maybe it is really the song's fault -- it is kind of simple, and making something special out of such a song def. takes a lot of talent. I think the younger generation of singers just doesn't "feel" what they sing, especially when it comes to songs that were written decades ago.
LOL>>>sounds like a good store.... I did hear the Arthur Anderson (NOT Beatles) version of "Anna" in my local Wendy's last week when I went in to pick up some of those "frosty" Halloween treat certs to give out LOL
The Way You Do the Things you Do IS simple..and fun....I love it and I smile any time I hear it still
I personally think the Temptations esp Classic 5 were fantastic at singing "young guy madly in love" songs....fun, flirty, maybe even silly songs...no one can touch them on this IMHO
>>>"I'm Too Busy Thinkin Bout My Baby" is another example of a song that was fun and about a young guy so in love, with fun words
"It's Growing"..."Get Ready"....all fun, happy songs...songs that to me speak of a young guy in love without all the drama, bs, and overthinking that some cover versions would add
I heard a cover of "It's Growing">> and all I could think was ...why>?? One mediocre R&B singer doing a song that fantastic 5 did perfectly??? what the heck???
I think some singers over interpret these songs....the cover version I heard of TWYDTTYD was wayyyy too serious and emotional...
a woman's (mature) voice s-l-o-w-l-y singing "Ummm... Oh Baby, You know, you know you could have been a schoolbook" is just....not good haha...."ohhh...let me tell you...you could have been a flower, uhh hhaaaaa"....ugh
American Idol singers always fail when they try the Tempts IMHO...last season was funny when the one guy tried to sing "all" the parts of "Get Ready" LOL...lead chorus, Eddie to Melvin haha
I have heard some of the reggae covers....they are "OK", and yes I like reggae music somewhat...but I love the Temptations and they did them best
I don't even think that some Temptations songs should be covered...why mess with perfection?? I would love to hear the originals played anywhere and everywhere....even supermarkets haha

Ok.who is gal singing The Way you Do the Things"?? « Result #34 on Oct 29, 2009, 10:46am »
I was in a supermarket and heard this on the musak... a woman, bluesy, singing The Way you Do the Things you Do
I know a couple of women have "covered" the song and I did check on You Tube to try to see who this was...but couldn't find it
I was NOT impressed btw..
on one hand, I was happy to hear the song as it may stir up new fans for the Temptations, on the other hand I felt it was really a very generic cover of the wonderful original
I also heard a version/cover of "It's growing">> one guy singing it again, to my ears, a very standard R&B singer, you could hear similar on any season of American Idol... a really unoriginal version
why mess with perfection?? Is this a new trend?? to play musak covers of the wonderful Temptations originals in supermarkets??
Give me a break....Eddie and David did it already and these songs were perfect
Does anyone know where I can preview some of the tracks from this album online? It seems impossible to find Surface Thrills and Power. I don't want to buy them. I just want to hear the songs. Are they available anywhere for listening?

Re: actors in the wrong role?? « Result #48 on Oct 20, 2009, 8:00am »
I think they were all really well cast except for Melvin (Blu)...DB Woodside looked nothing like him Melvin had such a cute, sort of round face with big eyes and a big happy smile...he just glowed DB Woodside has smaller eyes and long face...nothing like Melvin IMHO
I think Leon was masterful at creating David Ruffin....and I also really appreciate the guy who played Dennis Edwards...he looked like him and captured his "moves" when singing very well I thought

Re: DAVID'S RUFFINS PROTRAYAL IN THE MOVIE « Result #49 on Oct 20, 2009, 7:57am »
Oh I agree...any movie has to be shortened, and used for dramatic effect there had to be many different reasons and problems
as for the "contract">> Ruffin's brother Jimmy also had a contract, and one real hit, and faded away...many people had contracts (I think Otis had a couple with his various groupings)
The Temptations were MAGIC together as the Classic 5 and sometimes it would be best not to mess with that magic IMHO
David's demands and ego might have been tolerated, but from varioius sources it seems clear the final end came with him missing shows... he missed a show to go to see Dean Martin's daughter perform (they were briefly dating) and that was it Their show contracts required all 5 to perform to get paid and David apparently didn't care
I really love David Ruffin, such a voice....but he must have been hard to deal with Addicts ARE hard to deal with we look back upon him as fans Otis and the Temptations and the Managers and Motown had to deal with him missing rehersals, recording sessions, and shows.. and deal with him coming to all of the above in various states of being high and bringing dealers, hangers ons etc with him (the guy in the movie Flynn is a composite...and frankly it probably was even worse than in the movie)
Years later...the reunion..the dream...was also destroyed by the same problems And, IMHO, for the most part the other shifts of singers in the group were sometimes the same deal.
Re: Bloopers in the movie « Result #50 on Oct 19, 2009, 1:57pm »
i have a couple of bloopers for you all. 1- otis said the tempts left atlantic records after just "one album". false. the temps recorded 3 albums on atlantic! "here to tempt you", "bare back", and a third album was never released...although some songs were, one song had chuka khan. 2- during the "papa was a rollin' stone" session, the actor playing "dennis" is singing "richard's" part. and lastly, eddie left the tempts before paul...as i have a photo of otis williams, melvin franklin, paul williams, dennis edwards and one ricky owens! -peace-
